Hello,

Enjoying the local food of your expat country is great, but learning to cook the dishes yourself is even better. Please share what it's like cooking like a local in Italy.

What are some of the most popular local dishes that are easy to prepare?

What are the most common ingredients used in dishes in Italy? Where can you purchase them?

Is there a specific technique or a secret ingredient to master the local cuisine?

Are there resources available to teach you to cook like a local (classes, websites, etc.)?

What are the advantages of learning to prepare local dishes in Italy?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi

Learning to make and cook ravioli and risotto in Italy is a great experience and actually a good idea as will discover that the result is slightly different from what you used to prepare at home. The pasta and the risotto will turn out a bit more 'al dente' than you thought was correct. This you can only learn by experience, as taught by a truly Italian cook. Did you know that there are rice fields in the north of Italy? Of course there are, as risotto is a typical Lombard dish! You can even see the rice from the motorway west of Milan. The hot and humid climate of the Po valley is ideal for growing it.

For a small scale cooking workshop, have a look here, with pictures of the class.

As a Filipino, food here in italy is quite different from what i used to prepare in my country... But making local food here is not that difficult to prepare like pasta as always the main ingredient is tomatoe sauce and olive oils... but for me i give it a twist adding more ingredients because sometimes simple ingredients alone is boring to eat... Also their pizza here are sometimes only 3-ingredients... so i make my own with an extra meat and pineapples 😂... Anyway when you go in a supermarket you can find unfamiliar ingredients but later on you'll know what is it for.
