Single girl wanting to study in Ksa???

Hey guys!

I’ve recently been looking for scholarship opportunities to study in KSA. I had found a scholarship for myself in the University of Princess Nourah however my application had been rejected, due to me not having a Mahram living in KSA already.  😕
I provided them with an official authorisation letter from the UK which gives me permission to travel and study in the University by myself from my male guaridan, but it was still rejected.

I would like to know , how do non Saudi girls study in Universities in KSA? Not everyone who is from another foreign country is going to have a Mahram living in KSA already so I found that decision very unfair.
Does anyone have experience with Princess Nourah University? Are there any other Universities in KSA that will have scholarships for single girls to come and study?
Note: that I have an official letter that has been certified by the Saudi Embassy and British FCO office that allows me to travel and stay alone.
How could I make them accept it as I’m still very confused as to why Princess Nourah University rejected my application.

Sorry for the long post but I’d really like some help as I’ve really been wanting to study in KSA!!!

Thank you!

somer omak

Hi Nili ,

I'm sorry you got rejected because of Mahram things . I understand how unfair sometimes but it might be good for you , because now Saudi Arabia is not well good place for studying ..especially for single girl like you who will suffer a lots being alone and making friends here , it is not easy as London ..I can say it is " close society "

Plus , the majority of expats are leaving the Country due to high tax payments . So working after studying it might be not a really good choice . " it depends " also you can't work while you are studying in KSA.

Finally , Males have better chance to go to study under scholarship in Saudi Universities .. but I'm not sure there are international female students here " as single " and what you are seeing is ladies come as work visa which they can come alone ..

You have very good evidence by Saudi Embassy " you can show it again to Prince Norah University or you can contact Saudi Culture mission at London and they may guide you better with accurate information .

Have good night

Thank you very much for your helpful reply! I did think about it and maybe everyone is right, and I should consider other middle eastern countries to study in apart from KSA.

I’ve been looking around for scholarship opportunities in Emirates however I haven’t been able to find a very straight forward one like the one Princess Nourah University was offering me.

Do you know of any Universities in the UAE that may have scholarships yourself please??

Hi Nili_20!

I am a medical student at Alfaisal University, Riyadh, and I know there are female students living here alone. Most of those females have their families in other Saudi cities like Jeddah.

Now depending on your major, you might wanna look into Alfaisal. Simple put, my medical education experience has been nothing short of brilliant.

Let me know if there's anything I can help with.

Good luck!

With regards to scholarships, Alfaisal offers loads of scholarships.

1. Need-based scholarships
2. Merit-based scholarships
3. Dean's list scholarships (maintaining a GPA of >3.74/4 every year)
4. Sibling discount

I must point out that somer omak's comment above gives a distorted picture of what it is like to study here as a female. I wonder how he can comment on behalf of females studying here when he isnt one... :/

Thanks for your response! I am aware that girls are studying alone in universities even if their family are not with them. However, the issue with me was that they needed to have a male resident from my side to be in ksa, even if he is not the same city as me.

I looked into Alfaisal university and it looks lovely however I am looking to study "Early childhood or Primary education" and Alfaisal university does not provine that. :(

Awh shucks! Yeah, given the major youre targeting, you would be better off looking into universities in UAE, Qatar, etc. They have campuses of some prestigious western universities, and a degree from there would definitely be valuable.

Good luck!

@GuestPoster156 Hi! I am also looking for a scholarship in KSA specifically Clinical Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine or the like. I am already a graduate of BS Pharmacy in my home country and currently looking to expand my education. It is my dream to study in KSA. However, the thing about mahram is my problem because I don't have someone to come with me in KSA. But I do have relatives there but not my mahram Islamically speaking. Student from Alfaisal, can you please help me?

@GuestPoster156

Is alfaisal university a good university? There are a lot of reviews on internet that tell that alfaisal university isnt a good choice for women to study at... what is your personal opinion about studying in there???
