90 Day Reset

I plan to live in Dong Hoi for an extended period of time, I'm familiar with the 90 day reset as I use the Visa Waiver in Australia and go to New Zealand or Asia and return, but usually these trips are for several days. From Dong Hoi it is an easy drive to the Laotian border.

Is an overnight stay required, or can I have lunch or dinner and return the same day?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

Yes. You can return on the same day.

I am a U.S. Citizen traveling on a U.S. Passport with a one year multiple entry visa. I believed the question is answered, I can leave and return the same day. No overnight stay required.
