We talked to the realtor here in MA, he said there is a shortage of homes to buy and he thinks my house is in move in condition and that should sell fairly fast.
Need to open the pool, touch up a few spots with paint and a little yard work and it will be ready for the market.
Goes on the market in two weeks. Will head to PR when it sells.
CONGRATS REY!!!!! My wife and I hope that the transition goes smoothly and that your house sells for Top Dollar!! Are you moving all/most of your furniture to PR? If yes, let us know how long it takes for your container to arrive at your PR Door, once picked up.
BTW, we will light a Candle for you in remembrance of those LONG COLD Winters in MA!!! LOL
I will be moving very little, mostly boxes with clothes and some personal items, we will use a mover if we have enough. We are shipping my car. We are working with a 30 days after sale move out date. So money in hand after the close, we make the final arrangements and have up to 30 days to get out. We plan to drive to florida and drop the car for shipment, then get on a plane the next day and head to an AirBnb while we decide what place we will rent for 6-12 months while we build our new home.
If all goes well, I will be laying on a hammock, watching the news about all the snow that the poor souls are getting hit with while I stay warm with a cold beer in hand.
Yea, I will be returning home after many many years.
Awesome, hope it all goes smoothly, Rey!

Well house has been on the market now for 6 days, we had 1 open house and 2 people came back for private showings with their brokers, hope it sells in a month or two.

Yup, will rent for 6-12 months while I get my house build

Me too, I don't want to die of old age before I return back to PR.
Yea we will rent a house or apartment in PR while we deal with the location with in the lot, design, and construction of the house and pool, this way I am close to keep an eye on it and supervise the work so they don't screw it up too badly.
That’s an excellent idea, you really do need to be on top of it, I’ve also heard that they’re taking advantage of People and raising the prices of building materials and blaming it on Maria, just be smart keep an eye out on what’s going on
Rey, Congrats on the upcoming move. When starting a major project you must be on site to keep close tabs on quality and details! Keep us posted on your progress. 👍

Will do, I do plan to keep an eye on things, but it will likely be several months before actual construction is started. I want to do a good marking of the plot so we have exact lines of the property, decide on the house design, the measurements, the location of the house within the plot, and will probably need to build the driveway first so trucks and other equipment can get up there. Then and only then can the construction of the house and pool can get started.
But first is sell the house so I have the money to cover most of the cost.
Sitka; where are you located? I think we are close; I'm in Isabela.
Just had the house measured, our place is listed by the town as 1,143 square feet. But the measurements shows that the previous owner never did some permits for some of the changes, in reality the house is 1450 square feet in a .46 acre lot which competes nicely with a lot of the lots that are only around .28 acres.
So the price per square feet of my property will be going down substantially and will compare very nicely in the market.
Update: Today the house has been in the market for 13 days, and we have a signed offer. We will be signing the offer tomorrow so the house will be off the market after that. Hopefully the deal does not fall thru. They want to close July 6th.
Awesome news. Building materuals will. E going up even more. Get here soon and buy your supplies before thw price go through the roof
Looking forward to finally come home and speak my native language most of the day. I have been speaking English almost non-stop for 43 years. My wife is gringa.
Well they had the house inspector, the appraiser and the Radon test done. This morning the buyers and I came to an understanding on the repairs. Now we need to wait for the appraiser, the answer from the bank for their loan, and the results from the Radon test. We expect those in a week or so. We changed the closing date to July 17 to give us more time after they get their loan approved, I did not like a compressed timeline to clear the house. Fingers crossed, if all goes as planned we expect to be in PR by mid August.
We just got word that we are clear to close, so we are closing July 17. After that we will stay in the states for 2-3 weeks then head to PR.
Soon we will be hearing the Coqui sing.
Beautiful, congrats Rey.🎼🐸🌴💤
We are targeting arriving in PR around the 28 of July and going house hunting for a rental around the 30th.
I will be making arrangements today and tomorrow for everything.
Well, we sold the house July 17,spend a few days in RI then headed to Florida. We dropped the car at Jacksonville and headed to Miami for our flight to PR on July 27. We are staying at an Airbnb. We also found a house to rent, 3 BR, 2 Bath in great shape for 600 a month, it is just down the street from our property where we plan to build. We are set with Post Office and bank. Will sign rental unit in 2 weeks, mean time we are vacationing with our car and a bunch of boxes in their way. So we are now in PR for good.
Congrats Rey!!! I pray that your build goes smoothly and under budget!!
We held a "come to meet Rey" activity at La Pescaderia in Palmas del Mar on Thursday, about 10 people came.
We are in the early stages of organizing a meet-up for members of the east for Sept 8th (Saturday). After that in October we will organize another meet up for the North side, somewhere around Dorado and Probably do the West side in November. Will target South coast for either December or January due to holidays and depending on member count in that area.
Trying to get the members to meet each other.
Congratulations!!! Happy for you and your family Ray!
Thanks, we just moved to our rental with a year contract which we will probably extend until our house is bui;ld

How does it feel to be back home?
Is it how you thought it would be?
Hi Marion,
In many ways is like I never left, locals want to talk my ear off and always inviting me for coffee as it was when I was growing up. The place where I am renting is a little community of about 8 homes on the street, about 1/2 are related to each other, so I am getting to know each of them. The rental is in the same street as my property but at the bottom of the hill instead of up in the mountain where my property is. This will let me keep an eye on the progress once construction begins (several months into the future)
My wife which speaks mainly English but knows some Spanish gets easily lost in the conversations since is rapid fire Spanish most of the time but the neighbors do try to speak some English to her and are very friendly.
Yesterday we went to get a new bedroom set and I explained to the lady that my wife spoke English and they switched to English and every so often they would ask me if they said it right since they are not used to English.
I am still getting used to being home and listening to Spanish all around me after so many years of nothing but English.
I am still getting infuriated with the people walking in the middle of the supermarket isle while they are on the phone or talking with their 5 other members of the family they brought to the supermarket with them and completely clueless that there are other people in the store.
But I am talking with people around the town and they tell me where I can find the different stores, the best eggs, the best pizza, etc in the town or the next town over.
For someone not used to the language and the local lingo, it would be much harder, but for me everyone opens up quickly and it is home.
