around Oslo there are lots of skiing and winter sports opportunities. You can speed skate and figure skate at the rink in Frogner, for example. XC skiing is free and easily accessed by subway at Sognsvann and Holmenkollen. Downhill and snowboarding is also easy to access at Oslo Winter Park. Trysil is a bit further away (2 and a half hours) but is a bigger ski area that people often visit on weekends.

You can of course also snowshoe in the extensive forests around the city. Oslo is a great place for winter sports, and I highly recommend getting involved in some because it makes the winters much more manageable and even fun.
