Hi,

I am considering moving into KL soon. I have a situation. My spouse is moving to KL as well and we have applied Visa through his company. His company has applied for a dependent visa for me. The company which has given me a job offer, has advised me to arrive in KL with the dependent visa and then they would convert that into an Employment Pass.
My concerns are :-
i) Is this the best option available to me?
ii) How long does it take to get a dependent visa converted to EP? (My company says it takes 5-6 weeks)
iii) What are the exact, in details requirement for an EP?
iv) I read somewhere that for an EP I would require all my certificates to be certified true copy. I have done my studies from different states in India, is it possible that I get the attestation on my education certificates done once I am in KL? If yes, how much time does that take?
v) Which all educational certificates are mandatory to be attested? (I am a post graduate)
vi) On what all grounds can my EP be rejected?

I am pretty clueless on the procedures and have never in my life lived abroad. Any kind of advice/help is much appreciated.

Cheers!

**Arrive on DP and then the employer applies for the EP (as long as you are arriving on a single entry VDR like your husband should be getting before departing from India at Malaysian consulate/HC). The reason is the rule is while EP application is ongoing, the applicant has to be outside Malaysia. So entering on VDR and being on DP will prevent you from having to stay back in India when there is always a risk the EP application is rejected or an appeal has to be made. (It's not a conversion. It's a straight EP application)
ii) How long does it take to get a dependent visa converted to EP? (My company says it takes 5-6 weeks)
**As long as the company has the ability in terms of quota and paid up capital to hire you, it should take about 20 working days
iii) What are the exact, in details requirement for an EP?
**Definitely be prepared with correct paperwork to avoid problems - https://esd.imi.gov.my/portal/pdf/TC-ES … r-2017.pdf
iv) I read somewhere that for an EP I would require all my certificates to be certified true copy. I have done my studies from different states in India, is it possible that I get the attestation on my education certificates done once I am in KL? If yes, how much time does that take?
**Check Indian High Commission with all queries. BLS is their agent. Looks like action required in India for qualifications https://www.blsindia-malaysia.com/degree_attest.php
v) Which all educational certificates are mandatory to be attested? (I am a post graduate)
** Highest certificate (see guide above Annex D)
vi) On what all grounds can my EP be rejected?
**Job can be done by a local Malaysian i.e. foreign hire not required is the main one. There can also be issues that the company does not have a quota available.

I am pretty clueless on the procedures and have never in my life lived abroad. Any kind of advice/help is much appreciated.

Do check whether your qualifications are recognised in Malaysia

Thanks so much Gravitas. Much appreciated.
Where can I check if my qualifications are recognised in Malaysia or not?
One more question, once i reach there and my company applies for the EP is it a mandate that I have to be present in Malaysia all through the process? As in after reaching KL and submitting my application with the necessary documents can I return back to my home country till the EP is received?

It's always recommended to remain in Malaysia, but if you have your DP you are free to come and go.

But if you plan on leaving Malaysia, then it may be better sense to just remain in India (sending hubby ahead) and let the application be made without the DP being issued. That would probably take a little longer though, as the VDR process is needed*.  That way would save the cost of the DP if your hubby is being asked to pay anything.

Which professional area?

(Follow instructions)

*There is no guarantee an EP application will be successful, but the odds are highest for software engineers. That is why any other profession it makes sense for the application to be made right away to see if you are going to need the DP (i.e. cannot be employed)

Thanks for all your inputs :)

Better way to stay in India and enter with Single Entry visa, once you get your VDR from your employer.
