Should I move back to Ireland with my daughter?

Post new topic

I know they say that kids should not move countries too often but was wondering whether in my situation the situation is different.

A few months ago I was living in Ireland  where my daughter was born 7 yrs ago. Due to a relationship breakdown (father not involved in child's life) I had to move back home to my family in Sicily where I have all the support but quality of life is not as good.

My question is when my daughter is a bit older say 12/13 (so she won't need full time childcare which is very expensive in Ireland) would it be ok to move back to Ireland to make a new life there provided I can find work and afford the accommodation?

Any advice appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum :)

Personaly 6 / 7 years is a long time away, and things can change. I feel you can only make that decision nearer the time.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Age 12/13 is probably the most important age for your child's education as they are just beginning secondary school and is not the best time to uproot your daughter and introduce her to a totally alien education system.  My advice is to stay where you are until her education is finished.

Hope this helps.

Good advice Cynic. Well she is Irish and was in school there for a few years but Secondary is obviously different to primary school.

In ten years time she would have the choice to study in Ireland if she wanted to and if we could afford accommodation. Might be too late for me to go with her though as at 50 I would not say I will find a job too quickly
