Can a financially independent American retire in the Netherlands?

I moved here from California on a DAFT visa in 2010 (2013 if you ask the IND), as sole proprietor of a small business. By the time my current temporary residency permit expires in 2023, I will have resided in the Amsterdam apartment I purchased (for cash) in 2010 for more than a decade. The terms of my visa require income from my small business, despite the fact that I can live well on my American pensions, rental income, and investment dividends without generating additional income. I also pay boatloads of taxes in both the Netherlands and America, if that matters. Can I legally retire in the Netherlands with proof I can easily support myself from income sources other than my small business?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

You need to apply for a permanent residency visa; this link will take you to the relevant section of the IND website.

Assuming you have a DigiD, you can log on to start the process.

Hope this helps.
