Taxis and Limo Services

Post new topic

I'm a male American and I'll be in Riyadh for a month and a half starting in a couple weeks and I have a question about getting around the city.  I will need to make a lot of short trips to different local sites for work, and I'd like to be able to get around on my own in my spare time.  I'll be staying in an apartment near Faisaliah Tower, so I don't have a hotel to arrange them.

Are taxis a safe and reliable method to use for getting around the main parts of Riyadh?  I have seen lots of posts here and elsewhere on the internet that single women shouldn't use them, but I also occasionally see things written by men indicating they are unsafe and to be avoided in general.  I had originally planned to use them as a primary transport, but now I have been rethinking this...should I avoid all taxis, or just the yellow ones?  If so, what are my options?  I see posts with people suggesting limo services, but how do I find one of these?

Thanks!

What most expats do, is that they use a regular taxi driver.
when we need a cab we have a regular driver who we ring up.

Im sure most of the forum particpants can give you numbers of tried and trusted taxi's.

When you arrive, just post on here, and I am sure we can help you out on this.

Generally all taxis are very safe mode of transportation, especially as male we don't have any issues, for female late traveling to far distances would recommend trusted ones.

Since you are in the center of the city, u don't have to worry about anything, also try asking the driver for better charges and use the same one frequently will help you save money

Al Faisaliah is a mess to get a taxi .. ppl generally over charge from there.. coz of the mall and everything .. I agree with saudiUK .. find a good one.. stick with him .. if you need.. drop me a PM .. and I will give the number of the guy I use.. very punctual and . good rates..

Or better yet just try to rent a car. since you are an american, i think getting license here is just a snap..:) you can drove anywhere you want.
also dont forget a map or your GPS so u wont be lost.

Do not worry... everything will be fine... just ALWAYS be VIGILANT.

GOOD LUCK
