Thugs Attacked

We took a Futa taxi to the light house in Vung Tau. When we stopped in traffic a group of brazen thugs going the opposite direction swung in front of the car and demanded the driver roll the window down. They tried to punch the driver through the window. They seem to want to settle old disputes with the driver.
They followed us to the lighthouse and surrounded the car. We motioned the driver to remain seated and close all the windows and doors. I proceeded to bang the taxi horn to attract the attention of the tourist and security guard. The thugs jumped on their bikes and left.

I was worried they would lay wait along the quit road on our return journey so I deliberately stayed longer at the lighthouse. This was my first encounter with thugs while traveling Vietnam.

I hope you are safe, by the way on the other part of the world its normal, I was in Rio de Janeiro and these act are considered quite normal there.

Re Rio, I heard people don't dare stop at red lights... Carjacking and robbery...

Even feral dogs are usually frightened. Am glad to say I've rarely felt in danger, except from pickpockets. And then there was an attempted mugging by a fake motorcycle taxi rider. The guy had only 1 helmet - big red flag! At the hotel, he snatched money out of my open wallet. I fought back and held on to him. He crinned idiotically and returned the money. All this in front of an old woman who was 2 meters away. ..

And I have accepted rides on motorcycles from strangers. Not just motorcycle taxis.
