Shipping a car overseas

Post new topic

Yvonneem21

Hello!
I was born in California but I also have a Peruvian nationality. Therefore double nationality. I want to buy a car here in the US and ship it to Perú.
Would it be cheaper than buying it from Peru? And what cost in taxes would I have to pay? I’m thinking a 2018 Toyota Tacoma.

Thank you!

Dear Yvonne,

Welcome to the Peru forum....

Google as follows.....

   ship car to Peru

When you reach the companies brought up in your Google search, you can ask them your two follow-up questions.  They should provide you information as to the legality of bringing a new or used car into the country .. and whether your dual status gives you a leg up.

A cursory search shows company-listed prices between $1800 and 2100 US.  That may be port to port and would not necessarily include a host of niggly charges, storage charges, hidden customs charges, etc.

Your visa status could theoretically affect factors involved, as well.

It would probably be cheaper to buy in Peru.  Below in Spanish is an example showing your costs could be as high as about $7500 USD to import a car worth $5000 USD - note that the $12,525 total below is the $5000 car plus the costs of all the taxes and transport charges:

EJEMPLO.
