Critical occupation list

Post new topic

ShriK1931

Hi there -

I found this Critical OCC. list

Does this list indicate that these critical occupation are in demand in Malaysia? For example - Geologist is listed as CO. Does this mean it is difficult to find this skill in Malaysia, thereby opening up this for expats?

Similar list exists for other countries which is used to allow or deny foreign talent in the country. Like, in NZ, once the hiring Manager liked my profile but HR came back saying this occupation is not listed under skilled occupation and hence cannot hire foreigner.

Experts on this forum, please share your thoughts.

From the 2017-18 report these are the sectors "important to Malaysia's growth"

Aerospace; Electrical and Electronics; Medical Devices; Telecommunications and Multimedia; Information and Communications Technology and Global Business Services; Financial Services; Professional Services (Accounting); Oil, Gas, and Energy; Petrochemicals; and Education.

Talentcorp who is behind the report, is the government body that manages returning Malaysians and also has a type of visa for senior expatriates who can strengthen those areas (minimum salary RM15,000 per month to qualify).

Interestingly Doctors / Dentists are not mentioned.

Let's see what the new government does in this area in the future.

Also has a type of visa for senior expats.......

Are you referring to Resident pass - Talent?

Gravitas

Yes the talent visa has been popular in a few sectors that are providing their support for the application. But only available after minimum 3 years on employment passes at Category 1. This visa would seem to be a substitute (or stepping-stone) for Permanent Residence applications in the Expert or Professional category. The new government has mentioned some possible changes regarding PRs in the future. They already offered them to the over 60s who were long-term residents on other visas/passes
