Hi all

Please kindly share your knowledge, is PR allowed to work in a company locally or run a business in Mauritius? Furthermore, is G+2 foreigner property allowed for rent?

Thanks so much
Annie

Hi Annie,

Please find information on this article: Become a permanent resident in Mauritius

Have obtained an Occupation Permit for the three years immediately preceding the application date of the PRP
Have received a minimum salary of 150,000 Mauritian Rupees during the three years preceding the application date for the PRP

Self-Employed Non-Citizen

To be eligible for the PRP, the self-employed individual must:

Have obtained an Occupation Permit for the three years immediately preceding the application date of the PRP
Have a revenue exceeding 3,000,000 Mauritian Rupees per year for the three years preceding the application date for the PRP"

Thanks, Christine.

How about the foreigners obtain the PR through RES/PDS?  Afterwards can they work as an employee in a company or run a business without doing the self-employed visa, instead is the business licence or permit for the company?

Thanks

Annie

Hi Annie,

I think you should have an Occupation permit or self-employed visa in order to work here.

Best,
Christine

FWIW:

You don't get a PR ( Permanent Residence  Permit) through RES/PDS > US $500 K  but a Mauritian Residency Permit as long as ownership is maintained.

Exceptions are retired owners - who can obtain permanent residency rights, subject to specific terms.

Those who are on the island on an Occupational Permit may apply for Permanent Residence Permit after 3 years , subject to certain terms and conditions.

Note:
1.Any holder of a Mauritian Residency Permit under the Smart City Scheme is entitled to apply for a work permit and engage in professional activities in Mauritius.

Check this site for further info:
http://www.edbmauritius.org

2. Also, obtaining a Mauritian Residency Permit does not automatically entitle to a work permit, the right to acquire any other real estate property in Mauritius or obtain Mauritian Citizenship.
Again check with the edb.

Anyone can open or invest in a business in Mauritius, dividends from that company can be paid to a local account in Mauritius. This is decided by the “shareholders” and not the government

You cannot work unless you have the required permit for that... despite having a PR under PDS.
The self-employed permit is not for business but 'profession'.
You can definitely register a company and be its director & shareholder.
