LED or LCD

I looked into this about 6 months ago.

The picture quality is supposed to be better.

The difference is not very apparent at present as the number of HD channels is still limited.

So the advice I received was as that most of the channels I view are not HD, it probably does not justify the price difference.
(this was just over the 6 months ago, and the price difference was almost 35%)

I would expect that the price difference is much smaller now.

the price difference is like 200-300 for under 42 inch models..

and since LED comes in full hd 1080 format as .. is HD content is the only egde ?

I've noticed from the specs on display that the LEDs have a higher contrast ratio .. what effect tat does this have on the picture quality ?

I was informed by the tech guy that the real difference can only be seen in HD format...very little outside HD.

technically, its kinda difficult to explain but my points below:
LED is better... reason:
better picture quality (if u wanna make differnce then look at the shadows, thats where the difference is easily distinguished)
low electricity consumption (i know electricity is cheaper here but BE ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY)

but still, theres not much of a difference, it depends on u... money matters or the picture quality matters

Personally I haven't seen any noticeable difference in the picture quality between LCD n LED on the models on display at extra or other stores..

any suggestions ? Guys who used to own and LCD and now have an LED can perhaps comment better ?

The main difference between LED and LCD is very much clear,
LCD screens are lit by fluorescent light behind the screen glass,
Wheres LED screens have full arrays of tiny LED lighting up the screen,

lets put it this way, Flat panel displays can be divided into two categories, Cold-Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) and LED (light-emitting diode),
CCFL is the most widespread method of backlighting for LCD televisions, and consists of a series of tubes laid horizontally across the screen, for screens using LEDs, the idea is the same: a lot of LED bulbs are used to light the screen.

The cost of LED are high due to the limited number of manufacturers. AS for the quality, you can easliy compare both of these at any of the display shops.

As an emerging technology, i would personally go for LEDs but it may vary as to if you are a techno Geek!

Aside from cost LED is the way to go. Fe reasons;
Better picture quality
Lower powe consumption
Better reliability / life span
Ability to make a much thinner tv

I'm sure led will get cheaper in the coming years just like plasma did and then LCD did.

go get LED , u can get a 24"for 900 sar

from my personal experience , an LED way too better than LCD
bright color , stable view on different angles ,plus power up time faster , dont forget its also 2 ms refresh .

PS : manufacturing LED is very cheaper than LCD ,  but this doesnt apply in saudi
