Satisfying day in tien giang province

Post new topic

Had a great time yesterday in Tien Giang Province with my Wife's family.
My wife's family own a rice processing factory and yesterday I spent most of the day on the back of a bike with my wife's brother delivering 10kgs bags of rice to the less fortunate locals in the area, the kindness and hospitality shown by those we visited was wonderful, drinking tea and sitting in their very basic traditional surrounds with live stock in make shift pens and lush greenery backyards really brought it home just how so many people in the delta region are still living in very basic conditions, one couple in particular stood out of all we visited, the gentleman was 84 years old his wife was 78 they had been married for 57 years, everyday they still tend to their livestock and daily chores and taken care of their Guava, Papaya and herb garden, I would really like to go back and sit with them one day and talk about their life growing up in the Delta and through the period of the war...I think there is an interesting story to be told...

I've spent a lot of time in the Delta, and what you described is very typical of many farming districts. I too find it very relaxing sitting around in some of those places. Next time, ask your brother-in-law to take you to the diggings at Chợ Gạo.

You will need to get a local to give you the actual name of the place.

Guys, I spoke to my wife and the 'Diggings' apparently are the canals where there are floating food markets and fresh produce including fish etc; that you can buy along the canals...Chợ Gạo is in Tien Giang district ...Cho Gao meaning 'Rice Market' I hope this helps..

Have a nice weekend, by the way if you fancy a nice crafted beer there's a few folks on this website that are meeting up on the 7th December in the 'heart of darkness' brewery  31D Lý Tự Trọng, Bến Nghé, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh … 18.00 until you fall over

No not the same. The ones I went to have a date back around 2000 years, way before the canals.. Its tucked away from the main road and you will need to find someone who actually knows about them.

It gets very few tourists, its not a big place, just a historical site that doesn't show up on Google or tourism searches.
