Public Beaches in Jeddah

Hi all

Can anyone please advise me on Public Beaches where we can swim and BBQ (braai) in and around Jeddah?
Im from South Africa and so badly want to bbq a good piece of Steak and Lamb chop.

I met a few Egyptian Colleagues here and their view on beaches are totally different to what I am used to... I know I wont get South African long white sand beaches here... but just somewhere where I can take a quick dive in the sea while meat is sizzling on a fire...

Thanx... what is a "Private beach"... do you pay to enter? Like a Resort? Can you 0lease recommend some... been driving around for an hour now and can't find anything...

my friends recommend silver sands beach..... they think it is the best here in Jeddah. you can read alot of good reviews on trip advisor
