PR with Spousal Relation

I'll try to be brief, and sorry in advance for a bit of morbid discussion.

I've been married 7 years to a SA Citizen.  She is terminally ill.  When I retired she said she wished to die in her homeland. So we moved in SA 2 years ago.  I am here on a Retiree VISA.  I applied for PR almost 2 years ago.  Renewal of my Retiree VISA is not for another 18 month.  I have the resources to do so.  Having a Permanent Residency (PR) would of course take away one anxiety.

Questions:

1.  What has been the experience of receiving PR approval?

2.  Should my wife pass prior receipt of my PR, will it still go through since I did meet the requirements and the termination of our marriage would be considered "non-judicial".  According to DHA, this would not negate the situation.  But I'm afraid the timing might if she passes before the PR is awarded to me.

I have taken on responsibility of supporting her family including her mother and 3 young adult-children.  We are a family already. But they can not immigrate to the USA - I would prefer to stay here.

Thoughts?

Hi Phillip,

PR approval takes time but your patience should be rewarded soon. Most people report a 2-3 year wait as a worst-case scenario.

With regards to your wife passing, this will likely not affect your PR application. What I would suggest however is consistently following up with DHA to to check up on the status of your application. This usually helps speed things up.

Thank you for the reply.  We make inquires every 3 months.  I also used an Immigration Service out of CapeTown to prepare my paperwork.  They said the same, but when you are in the middle of such a situation, you need re-assurance.
