Where to find a place to live? (renting)

Post new topic

Hello, I am currently in Poland and I'd like to move to Punta Cana. My question is, are there websites or places where to find a place to rent short term (and long term)?

Is there any worry I should have, about a scam or anything else?  When I moved to Poland I just rent a place online (made sure it was not a scam and paid online) and bought the ticket, then I solved visa matter once I was already here. In Republica Dominicana is possible to do the same?

Thank you in advance

Welcome to the forums.

Normally we recommend you rent an Air bnb for a few days and then start looking for longer term rentals.  I dont really trust the websites here yet.

Second you cannot start your residency process from here. It starts from "home".  There is a thread on residency here: https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=385083

Read that thread to get an idea of the process!  Understand that if you need to work you will need residency FIRST!  There are no longer many jobs available without the legal right to work.

Planner, Thank you very much for your answer... I work online from home so I can choose where to live, and everything I read about Punta Cana seems to be what I like (beach, relax, tons of tourists and expats). I just contacted the embassy of RD in Belgium (the closest to me) to check how to initiate the VISA process.

Once in Punta Cana, is it easy to find a place to live close to the beach, like I just go to real estate agencies? And is it common to rent for few months, not for a year? (I ask because in Brazil and in Spain it is very rare to get a rent contract for less than a year and when it is this way, high season will be more than double price or they just kick you out).

thank you again!

Yes its a tourism based community so easy to do.  I have some friends there who can scout around too.   High season is a reality and prices do change. For longer term rentals it smooths out a bit.

Hi
For a married couple what is best for money wise and not to be close to the late night party
Cabrera or cabarete just need to enjoy the sun and beach and to don't be in isolated place fare from expat

Hello, freeperson, thanks for answer.

Late night parties is exactly what we want... Beach at day, party at night, that's why we chose Punta Cana. :)

We will go in April to check all the country anyway, but everywhere we go to live we end up living beside the discos or beside the beach. hehe

There are many locations that will work for you then kochaniutki!

Thank you very much, I plan to go in March to look around and then we'll decide.

One question is: is there a rainy season in Punta Cana? And how is that?  I don't trust much weather websites, because what these websites tell about the cities I lived is not accurate... and the hurricane season, does it affect República Dominicana?

thank you very much, Planner!

March is high season and perhaps the best of the weather on the East Coast. Weather patterns are changing in DR and there is no monsoon season as such. This year has seen drought conditions.

The tropical storm season starts in June and extends to the end of November with peak activity normally from late August through mid October. But even that is unpredictable these days.

Exactly right, the weather is getting more and more unpredictable.  I dont trust most weather predictions.

Expect hot and sunny, chance of showers,  chance of mosquitoes........  At night darker and slightly less hot and sometimes more mosquitoes.

planner

Hurricane season is technically June 1 to nov 30.  Lennox is right there is more activity historically from later in August to later in October!

thanks. But finding a place to live in AirBnb seems to be a little too expensive, or not? Maybe to stay for a month it would worth even being overpriced, but to live long term?

emetz55

Almost everywhere I have stayed is usually for sale or for long term rental depending on what you are looking for. I also find it to be MUCH cheaper than hotels while you are hunting for a home. Also the owners or managers usually know the area and will help you.
