This is the first instance of WA hacking I've heard of, perhaps using WA web?
That handy software allows WA users to send and receive messages using their PC but, if someone gets access to your phone for a moment (left it on an office desk?), they can log in at any time under your name.
If that is the case, the WA app on your phone will give you the information as to who is using WA web with your log in details.

Another note

Contact details are not allowed on expat.com, that is partially to stop spammers and others with malicious intent from luring posters under false pretences, but also to stop the various types of nasty people that trawl the internet for potential victims.

Giving your number out is a great way of attracting fraudsters such as these WA scammers.
