Legalisation and Apostille from another country as residence

Post new topic

selens

Hello,

Since our situation is a bit different, I wanted to ask if someone ever done or have such experience.

My husband and I originally are Turkish citizens, living in Japan under our work visas and will be applying Netherlands work visa via company which my husband will start to work as they agreed.

We've got our marriage certificate from Turkish Embassy in Tokyo with their embassy stamps, translated with multiple languages, and visited Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo for Apostille. They said they cannot issue an Apostille because the documents issued by Turkish Embassy, not from a Japanese bureau/office and suggested that we should ask if an Apostille is really mandatory.

Do you have any suggestions or anyone ever had experienced such situation as a residence in a foreign country?

Thank you

Hello Selens,

Welcome to the forum.

As for your question "and suggested that we should ask if an Apostille is really mandatory.".

Yes, it is mandatory to apostille/attest the documents.
Moreover, you will need to apostille/attest your birth certificates.

Suggestion:

1) Contact and ask the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo.

2) I dont know if this can be done but see if you can send your document to someone in Turkey to apostille/attestation the papers on your behalf in Turkey.

Make sure to apostille/attest all the documents from the following:-

1) Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2) Dutch Embassyin Turkey.

Please keep us updated.

Best of luck.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Turkish citizens have special rights with regards to Immigration into the Netherlands; I don't think they apply on your first move, but it is worthwhile knowing about them for the future and if you intend to stay there.  They are explained fully on the Dutch Government (IND) website; this link will take you there.

With regards to your specific question; again the IND website contains information related to this; this link will take you there.

If you have any further specific questions, please come back to us and as Realismail has said, it's extremely helpful if you could let us know how you get on.

Hope this helps.
