Housing help in Bahrain

We'll be looking for a villa, preferably on a compound or development. Something relatively self contained. We're very interested in Amwaj Island. Anyone living there or know any details they can share? Is Durrat Al Bahrain anywhere near completion? Ideally we need a 3-4 bdrm with pool.(Private or part of a compound)Would prefer a partially or fully furnished place. Also any referrals on realtors would be helpful. Are rents paid monthly or yearly(as in Dubai)?
Also, can someone explain the "card" that expats have to carry at all times, that is required for many purchases and setting up house?
what is required in terms of a drivers license to lease a car? Do i have to first get a Bahraini license or can I use my Int'l or U.S. license?

NJcara, I would assume that by May 2009 you've moved already, but if not then in regards to your license, if you have a US license, the driving association in Bahrain will give you a Bahraini license no problem. Good luck driving, you are a braver woman than I!

Rruskin, when you say town where do you mean? I am guessing you mean either Seef or Juffair... (Seef is mainly malls and offices, Juffair is all the hotels and the clubs serving alcohol).
I live just outside of Seef, directly opposite City Center Mall, in a 2 bedroom, largish, apartment with use of gym and pool and rent is BD700 a month. A friend of mine lives in a 1 bedroom apartment, again with use of gym and pool, in Juffair for the same amount of money. These aren't in compounds though.
