If you can show proof of that, maybe shop CCTV footage, that would be good evidence IF it's a set up for cash.
Getting the footage might be impossible but it has to be worth a try.

Thank you so much Fred.  Any ideas how we would be able to get the video from pub street ?  I’m sure the locals would not be likely to hand it over to us. Also I’m sure it would be hard to narrow down the dates and times.  They made him sign all kinds of paperwork and his “statement” and it was written in their language. He had no idea what he was signing.  Maybe it says the dates they are accusing him. I just don’t know how we would get video.
