2019 Mauritius Budget: Expectations from expats and future expats

Hello everyone

The annual budget under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development will be presented on the 10th of June.

The budget, besides being an accounting exercise, also lays the foundation for economic development and expansion over the years to come and set out measures, strategies, regulations and plans to attract investment, create jobs, modernise the country and spur the creation of new economic pillars.

People thinking about moving to Mauritius for jobs, investment, self-employment or retirement will be directly concerned by the new projects that will be announced for implementation together with potential new regulations pertaining to foreigners.

Already there are talks about the setting up of a special package for foreigners regarding the Occupation Permit scheme.
Also mentioned are new measures to speed up delivering of permits and licenses for foreign companies and investors and more incentives to attract HNWIs (High Net Worth Individuals).

As expats and future expats, what are your expectations and what changes would you like to see regarding existing framework and conditions.

Thank you for being the conduit that informs interested parties of government policy.
I would be happy to contribute observations/ideas/opinions. If a policy is ready to be presented on 10th of June, then anything I might say now is too late for consideration.

How might I access and read that policy when it is presented: will you be posting here a link? Are there other relevent documents/policies that could be informative, if so, how can they be accessed?

I'd be particularly interested in any economic data evaluating the macro-economic contributions of HNWI's (property investors/entrepreneurs/retired), as well as any published papers pertaining to their social impact.

FYI, regarding immigration policy and economic growth, my personal interest is the rôle of "human capital". Gosh, a very dry and boring subject, perhaps not anything too interesting for the ex-pat Mauritius forum. Do let me know, please Winston, if there is a more appropriate platform to discuss these subjects. Your advice will be appreciated.
