Entry date on Visa

I will be traveling over the next 7 months visiting Canada, Alaska back to Australia then to Thailand, for Xmas, Laos and finally Vietnam as I’m trying to organise a 3month Visa for Vietnam starting app 1st-5th of January. I know that I have to have a date of arrival and a date of departure but my question is Do I have to arrive on that date or can I arrive 3-5 days later?

You can arrive any time from the date of entry.

You can arrive anytime after the entry date specified on your visa but not before.

If you are heading to Laos there is now an e-visa, so you can apply online, email this with photo and they will send you a letter which you present at the e-visa counter and your passport is stamped. Check out the Lao forum for the website.
