Shifting from Bahrain to Saudi

Post new topic

Hi! Am presently working/living in Bahrain.Planning to move to Dammam shortly on job grounds.Have two vehicles at present under my name. Started the proceedings for transfer of ownership of both the vehicles to my wife's name. One is a SUV and the other is a sedan. Both the vehicles were purchased new in Bahrain and are three years old.Family is staying in Bahrain as my wife is working here. Initially planned to transfer the SUV to Saudi and do the plate transfer. But due to the new regulations regarding the purchase/transfer of any SUV for expats living in Saudi the possibility is ruled out. So I think the only option is to transfer the vehicle under my wife's name, get an authorization from her to drive frequently between Dammam and Bahrain via causeway. Can someone explain in detail regarding the authorization formality and related procedures?I hear that this authorization will be valid up to a maximum of one year. Can this be annually renewed and for how long?

Is it worth taking a GCC comprehensive insurance cover for an year or take comprehensive insurance cover within Bahrain as usual and additional third party insurance during every up and down travel in the causeway?

Please guide me in getting the frequent travel toll pass between Bahrain and Dammam. Is it worth taking toll pass for a long term period? Will I be able to cut short the regular crowd by this way?

When I initially worked in Saudi, I had a Saudi driving license which I converted to Bahrain license when I joined job in Bahrain and had to surrender the Saudi driving license . Can I use the current Bahrain driving license in Saudi or I need to convert it to Saudi driving license again (the validity of the surrendered Saudi driving license is in life until 2023)

Need some expertise advise

You can keep renewing it indefinitely

Worth it especially if you have an accident in Saudi.  In which case, you will pay out of pocket for repairs to your own car

There is no frequent toll pass in the way you mention it.  It is a card that allows you to pay the toll at a discounted rate vs. paying cash all the time.  It doesn't save you much time as the queues are at customs and immigration and not at toll.  VIP passes exist for totally separate lanes which drastically cut the time but there is no hope of getting one unless you have serious high levels of wasta.

Theoretically, if you have a Saudi Iqama, you should drive on a Saudi license.  In practice, they don't bother but if you have an accident, it can go either way.  So better to convert.

Thanks for the reply. Previously I had a Saudi DL (which was valid till 2023) which I surrendered in Bahrain to get a new Bahrain DL. Will I get the same or a different/new one as there will be change of Iqama number.

You will get a new one.

If I take a comprehensive GCC cover for the authorized vehicle which I am going to run between Dammam and Bahrain, will there be any necessity to pay again for the third party insurance in the causeway?
