As a Non-EU Engineer, can I apply for MVV for an orientation year?

I  am an Electrical Engineer with 8 years of experience from India. Currently I am staying in Oman. Now  I am planning to apply for MVV and Resident Permit  for Netherlands. In the eligibility criteria for an orientation year for highly educated migrant seeking employment, it is mentioned that within the past 3 years we should have completed a degree (either in Netherlands or in Abroad). I have completed my graduation in 2010 in India. Will I be eligible to get an MVV in the category of highly educated migrant seeking employment for an orientation year as I have completed my graduation before 3 years from now?.  Kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I think you are mixing up 3 different types of work visa.

The orientation visa is just for what you described, a newly qualified student who is considering the Netherlands as a place to work; if you don't qualify, then you can't apply.

The MVV/residence permit is where you are applying to come and look for work in the Netherlands; you either need a sponsor (so have a job to come to) or the Dutch government will make a decision as to what chances you have of finding work there (if they don't think you'll find work, you can get turned down) and also have to pass a Dutch language exam.

The skilled migrant visa is for those who have been offered work by a company based in the Netherlands and are registered with the Dutch Government (IND); there are salary thresholds.  There is no language exam requirement.

You can only apply for one visa at a time.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much  for your information.  I have been analyzing about  these process  for nearly 1 year. Your response is highly valuable for me.

My designation is BIM Modeller(Electrical Engineer). For this field, there are numerous vacancies available in Netherlands. I had been trying for job in Netherlands for the past 1 year. I am getting a  lot of responses from the Employers  from Netherlands. But they expect me to get the residence permit by myself. For that reason I am processing my MVV and residence permit.

1. My situation will fall under the second category from your response (MVV/ residence permit to come and look for work in the Netherlands). So now my question is in the 'MVV Issue Form', under 'purpose of stay in the Netherlands', In 'employment' section, 8 options are available which are given below

1.Employment  2.Self-employment 3.Employment as highly skilled migrant 4. Highly educated migrant seeking employment
5. EU Blue card holder 6. Start up 7. Employment as researcher 8.Employment as cleric/teacher of religion.

In the above options which one is suitable for my current situation..

2. Also I have visited Netherlands embassy in Oman and they informed me that there is no Civic Integration Exam is conducted in Oman. So is it mandatory to write the exam when we apply MVV/residence permit from Oman?.

Kindly clarify. Thanks in advance

Hi again.

It's the 1st category - so "Employment".

Regarding the Integration exam, unfortunately, it means you will have to travel to an Embassy in another country that does offer the exam; the Dutch government have issued an explanatory document, you can access it from this link.

Hope this helps.
