retirement pay out

Post new topic

BongThom

Hi all,

I worked for few years in Brazil and paid into the state retirement system.
I was told I can get it paid out after a certain time and if I have left the country.

Who is the correct bureau/authority (website ) to contact?

Thanks

abthree

Hi, Thom,

Check out the US-Brazil Social Security Treaty here, to see whether it's applicable to your situation:

If it is, your local Social Security office should be able to help you with next steps.

*ETA*  Sorry, I assumed from your post that you were American, but your profile indicates that you may be German.  In that case, you should check on whether either Germany alone or the EU has a social insurance treaty with Brazil, that defines your rights.

Now here are age and length of time worked which a person has to meet and I can not help there.

To BongThom:

Briefly, if you´re thinking about age retirement (INSS):

1. You should have contributed to the system (carência) for a minimum of 180 months (15 years) to receive pension benefits. Less than that, NO BENEFITS.

Time of contribution:
men: 35years
women: 30 years.

There are certain types of benefits that requires lesser time of "carência" or contribution like disability and some don´t even require it.
