Hi I moved to Malta as self sufficient resident in the second half of 2018. I forgot to fill out the tax return for the tax year 2018. Can someone help me in understanding what steps should I take?
Thank you

By all means check with the tax office but if it was the second half of 2018 then you would not have lived here for more than 183 days so may not have been required to complete a tax return.
Remember tha tax year here is the Calendar year.

I was also Self Sufficient and also resident for only the last couple of months of 2018 so according to the information on the Revenue website I should not have had to file a return, however when I went into the tax office to ask they told me I had to file one anyway.  They fill it out for you right in the office and you just have to sign it there.  No tax was due.

I would suggest you go into the office and explain and take care of it there.  There are penalties if you don't file.

Thanks Tim.
Would you be so kind to pot the relevant link Revenue website and the exact name of the retun form that you signed (The name printed at the top of the form)?  I assume you have a copy of the form you signed.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards

Why not just go into the Tax Office?

If you take the trouble to look at the pinned post on here regarding residency it informs you that you must register for tax purposes, it provides a link to information regarding tax and under the heading - Income Tax - you will see a sub heading 'e forms' at the bottom on the left in blue where you can download the form to register.

I tried but was not able to find the right link. Would you be so kind to forward it? Thanks a lot

It's the first sticky post in the Malta Forum - it's called "EU Citizens e-residency process & Health Care info." - just scroll down the page and it gives you the Tax Office contact details and website address.

Hope this helps.
