Hello I am wondering if you could give me some advice.

I arrived in Ho Chi Minh yesterday from the UK with my partner, both of us have a 3 month multiple entry business visa with a sponsorship letter from the company we planned to work for. We came to Vietnam to work as English teachers however upon arriving we have decided the role is not what we were expecting and do not want to work for the company.

We have not signed any contract with the company and our probation periods does not begin until next Monday. As per their website it states not until the end of this period are we a full employee of the company (so currently we are not employees of the company).

Would the company be able to cancel our visa or get our visa cancelled if we were to inform them we do not wish to take the job?

Also would we still be able to stay in Vietnam as tourists and not work despite holding a business visa?

Perhaps see a visa agent, and get a multi entry 3 month tourist visa, or at least get some advice .

Yes and No

Hello
you no need worry  ,you can stay on this visa ,That company cant cancel your visa,

Who paid for the visa?

This is why I always advise people to find jobs once they arrive. Many VN employers are crap.

R12345

The company initially paid for the Visa however we reimbursed them which seems to have satisfied both parties.

Additional question however, would we still be able to use the business visa to work elsewhere in Vietnam despite the sponsorship letter being provided by the company we are no longer going to work for?

Please do not give out advice unless you are well versed on the law, or at least, have some personal experience on the matter.

Would you mind giving some reasoning as to why that is? I've asked visa advice and had no luck from them!

Business visas are for the company that sponsors you.

I vote for that answer.

It's reasonable...

Yep guess that seems to make sense... However as we have paid our own visa and the company have not technically employed us would it be the case they have sponsored us? Just to clarify I'm not trying to be picky just trying to get a conclusive understanding!

Generally a visa cant be altered once it's issued. You could take a risk and work for another company with that visa, but if its done legally they will need to submit your visa to the required department who may come down on you.

Seeing as a visa is not that expensive, why not find a new job, then ask the employer if they will sponsor you and get a new visa issued. You will have to do a border run for that to take place.
