new in spain from germany and looking to make new friends in understanding spanish language. i know spaniards talk a lot but its not helpful when they switch to english

I'd suggest explaining . . . in Spanish . . . that you appreciate their desire to facilitate the conversation but that "[te] gustaria practicar hablando en espanol!"
