Live in Mauritius to practice Bodyboard & Rock climbing

Post new topic

Hi!
I'm a french yoga teacher & nurse in mental health (psychiatry, pedopsychiatry).
I'm thinking of moving to Mauritius to be both close to the ocean for bodyboard and practice rock climbing as well.
Can you tell me, people from there or living there as expats:
- how is the atmosphere and life in Mauritius? (security, cost of living, rentings, general happiness and welcoming..)
- is there job opportunities in my fields: yoga teaching, yogatherapy, nurses in psychiatry?
- How and where are the bodyboard spots? ( availability, access, conditions of surfing, reefs, sharks?, other dangers,...)
- How and where are the rock climbing spots on the island? is there indoor climbing ? ( access, equipments,...)

Thanks a lot!!

Hi there,

I would suggest you consult the Mauritius Guide for an overview about life in Mauritius and what's in store for you.
https://www.expat.com/en/guide/africa/mauritius/

Due to restrictions on foreign employment in some sectors, many of the jobs you aforementioned will not be available for you unless you can provide an in-depth explanation and proof that you will be bringing something new and innovative to Mauritius.
Minimum salary benchmarks imposed by the authorities can also be a major hindrance.

There are quite a bunch of companies and groups in Mauritius involved in outdoor activities like rock climbing, etc. They are scattered all over the island given that with a rugged topography, many such spots can be found here.
Once such company is called Vertical World. You can look it up.
