Re-entering using the 90-day Social Visit Visa shortly after leaving?

I did exactly that for about 4 years until I got married and decided to get MM2H. Mostly though, I didn't exit for just a day, I traveled a lot to other places in Asia for a week or two here and there. Also, this was from 2003 to 2008 so perhaps rules have changed. I only ever got questioned once by JB immigration but they also didn't really seem bothered.

The latest that I know, from personal experience, was earlier this year when I was told by an Immigration officer at KLIA "More than six months in Malaysia, you must have a visa." I was let off with a warning, but I decided to get MM2H asap.
The policy was tightened up in September 2018.

I am in Penang researching whether to apply for MM2H.. we are in a lovely air bnb apartment which we can have for 6 months if we choose. However, we have 90 day visa but don't think it will be long enough to make a decision...
Can we get a second 90 day visa after leaving to go to Singapore for a few days?  I understand it is up to immigration at the time. Also we have dual UK Australian citizenship with 2 passports.  Don't want to break any laws or get into any trouble but could we come back in on the other passport??

@Bella You should be fine if you've only had one prior 90 day tourist stamp (it's not strictly a visa) in the last few months. But yes, it is up to the individual Immigration officer (and their boss).

Having two passports would be an ideal workaround, I'd have thought! Just be careful to enter and leave with the same one each visit.

jojoefo I don't recommend the MTEP visa, you can search in this forums for my experience with it (or rather my husband's but I posted about it). Another friend has the MPTE visa, and now has problems renewing after the 2 years (his business is successful here). MTEP requirements are tricky and approval is by the Head of immigration (who knows nothing about IT). Since you already have a successful business, it also wouldn't make sense to go via MTEP as it's for startups who aren't making money yet... I would recommend MM2H in your case if you have enough starter funds to put in the fixed deposit. Your online business will need to generate a minimum passive income but not a very high one. I have friends here on MM2H, they have a 10-year visa with very little hassle.

Regarding staying for 9 months, last year my husband got rejected at klia2 after his 4th 3-month stay (even though he was out for 3 weeks at a time, and even though he was still in the midst of waiting for his MTEP visa application). We eventually gave up on MTEP and got married (best decision life-wise but not visa-wise, it's another can of worms!).

Dont confuse the passes. A social visit pass IS a class of visa, and you mean a tourist visa which is 90-days. People looking for information on the 2-3 year Long Term Social Visit Pass will be confused by your title and post.
