Hi, I regularly send mony to Ethiopia via Western Union, but direct bank transfer seems impossible. If you want to send from Ethiopia, I can't help you. But I'd guess that it would be very difficult, particularly obtaining the valuta.

Hello everyone,

My name is Chapi Mwango. I was born in Addis Ababa but my father was an expat from Zambia. I spent most of my early years traveling as pops worked for the UN, but eventually settled in A.A. After completing high school I spent about six years in Canada in BC and SK, where I completed my B.Comm.

I plan on returning back home by end of July to start a business with my brother. With that in mind, I am hoping to do some networking and as well as potentially meet some new people and have fun weekend activities such as golfing.

Cheers

Wish you a good stay here...I was new here a year ago...in general it's safe...except night time..don't walk alone at night...and always take care of your bag when you walk...you can't be hurt to be robbed but it may happen with out you noticing....if you want to buy you may try to bargain...so they won't charge you for more....other than that you will be fine...in general the people here are nice..but some facilities and services are really backwards.
Good luck.👍

Hi Ineess,

Maybe my perspective can help you!

I've been back for about three weeks now. At the time there were some minor disturbances which I'm sure you heard but all else is good.

What I can honestly say as someone who moved from Canada is that this place is not like the west but at the same time, there is an air of friendless and hospitality. Also if you are here looking to start a business or work it is to your advantage as an expatriate.

Again if you need someone to chat with or provide you a local perspective let me know once you get here.

Cheers

Hey 👋

Hoping to move in February.

What would you recommend I use to negotiate my contract as a family of four. Two kids, a spouse and myself.

Thanks!

Miss Cee Cee

Hey All,

Great forum!

I got a job offer to relocate to Addis.

Just need some insights before taking the jump.

What should I include in my contract negotiation as a family of four inclusive of two school going kids?

Thank you!

hello,  my name is Ezana and I'm from LA. I'll be moving to Ethiopia in a few months to do some work. I hope to find out what I have to do before moving and look forward to hearing all about your experiences in Ethiopia :)

Hi Ezana,

I am happy to help you and i am from Ethiopia living the main city Addis Ababa.

You have to do a COVID test before you enter to Addis. The people in is very sociable person in every city and if you know about the culture, restaurant anyone can tell you. If you want to know about the current political situation in Ethiopia is now very safe and you have to check also with your Embassy before you come. About hotel there are many hotels with high and low prices in Addis city. Ezana, i don't know your field of work what you are intended to work here in Ethiopia ,either in business , social works or other, after all i am willing to help you for all what you would like to know with out reservation.
