Does anyone have experience of buying pre-owned cars from dealers or used car market? if so how was the experience in terms of car condition, prices etc?

Don't unless you have a lot of time to do the research, a lot of cars are in horrible condition, nobody cares about their maintanance, service intervals not adhered to, etc.
Get a fully insured car from the rental or buy from a realiable expat.
