Adopting a pet in Ecuador

Loïc

Hello,

Are you a dog or a cat person? A pet can add life to a home and make an ideal travel companion during your expatriation in Ecuador.

However, formalities or regulations might put you off traveling with your pet making adoption a better option.

Are there any particular rules or procedures for the adoption of an animal in Ecuador?

What are the costs associated with adopting a pet in Ecuador?

Are there different procedures depending on the animal?

Are pet-sitting options available?

Have you ever adopted a pet in Ecuador? Is he or she still with you today?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Loïc

Adopting a pet is as simple as feeding one of the many many strays who then stay with you because you feed them.

Or feeding some puppies / kittens before they are got rid of. Or just finding some in a box by the bins.

We've adopted loads, some are still alive, some unfortunately are not

It is so easy to adopt a pet here in Ecuador. There are many strays and abandoned dogs throughout the country. We have taken in at least 10 and found homes for 7. We kept our favorites. No paperwork needed. You just have to bring them for their vaccinations.

In the Loja region, the municipio does adoption events some/many Sundays at Parque Lineal la Tebaida.  The nice part of that is that the dogs they have up for adoption are still strays, but they have been "fixed".  Still free, though there is a little paperwork.
