Bankaccount

Even with an ACR card, a 12 month lease on a condo and my better half , PH. national and employed with a government department with me got rejected at 3 BDO branches and finally at the forth requested to talk to the manager, grovelled a lot and finally got a personal account and a joint account. It was very frustrating as well as a lot of wasted time.
I hear of others waltzing into different banks on tourist visas and walking out with a bank account, perhaps we were unlucky.

The 2 accounts in Manila we tried to move to La Union a year ago, no sir different branch you need to start a new account even though we had been with them for 7 years. The better half opened a new account but I could not without an ACR card even though I hold a 25+25 year lease on a local property, go figure.

I think most of the banks are run through franchises and appear to interpret and apply the rules as the manager sees fit.

Cheers, Steve.

Small correction, it is not "retired military" even thought that is what the rules say.  It is retired and military.  I spent 3 years in the military and I qualified without any problems.  Simply had to show proof of honorable discharge.

Do you remember what happened to the SRRV holders who lost their deposits with the bank going under?  With me and my meager $1500 deposit it would not be a real catastrophe  If it was 10K or 20K, that would be more difficult.

Well, it is never fun even when they eventually pay. But any single account with more than 500k is hosed for the amt over that limit.

So you are military? What about the yearly fee is that $10 or $360?

The yearly fee for those with the SRRV courtesy, which is available to veterans is $10 per year. I paid my three years in advance.

For some reason, the PRA told me that I could only pay the 3 years in advance after the first year.  I don't know why but it is not a big deal so I just won't make any waves.
