Hello everyone! I have just received my paper check in the mail a few weeks ago and am now wondering if anyone knows how I can cash it or somehow deposit it into a bank account here in the Philippines. My parents were able to receive theirs by direct deposit as they have a US dollar account with Citibank. I did try to ask if I could endorse it to my father and just have it deposited into their account, but it wasn’t allowed. However, they did offer for me to open account but the minimum deposit was at one million php and I don’t have the budget for that. I do have a BPI savings account in pesos, but after inquiring, the bank teller took my info and told me she will still have to check with their head in Manila if they are allowed to accept such a check. But unfortunately I just read somewhere here that BPI isn’t accepting any US treasury checks... so Im not expecting it to work out. If anyone has any advice for me... it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Go to Landbank and p5000 to open a dollar account.

sarahw45

Thank you so much for your fast reply! Okay, so they will certainly accept checks from the US Treasury
?

Sumomaster2004

Yes.

Sumomaster2004

Can i ask your status on the $600 stimulus?

sarahw45

Still haven’t received a paper check for the $600... but my parents have already received theirs early this month via direct deposit at Citibank.

Sumomaster2004

I havent gotten mine either. I have a US address.

I had received a US Treasury Tax return check, it was made out to myself & my Filipina wife. BDO would not accept the check for deposit in her account.

There is a way for you to cash it, when every trail you try leads to a dead end. My Filipino Stepson downloaded an App on his smartphone that enabled him to snap a photo of the check and deposit it in my US Citibank account.

Make sure you  log into the Citibank US or any bank you still maintain in the US not the Philippines. You can deposit the check into your parents account or any account you maintain in the US.

Your parents can send the money to you through Western Union or some other online company.

(Off Topic, I recently complained about TransferWise taking 4 days for my transfer. Yesterday I did a transfer that took less than two hours.)

You can open a dollar saving account at RCBC bank and deposit your check. One hundred dollar opens an account and it takes  30 days to clear. I bank at the branch in Taygaytay where they know me personally.

BDO will accept my personal check for deposit from the states and put a hold on it, even though it clears Citibank in the states the next day.

BDO will not take a US Treasury check for deposit, regardless of the hold in a Dollar or Peso accounts, we have both.

Thank you for your reply. I will try the Citibank app option.

By the way, are you able to make purchases outside of the US using TransferWise? I’m looking into it because I’ll be in the UK for a few months later this year and I’m looking for a low cost way to spend there. But as I’ve researched, they only issue their debit cards in selected countries for now— Philippines not being one of them.

I believe TransferWise is moving money from bank account to bank account. But I'm not able to move My Citibank Dollar to BDO Dollar account. Only Dollar to Peso, I guess because they skim a small percentage.

I am able to use my US credit cards and US debit cards in the Philippines. I notified the banks telling them I will be using them in the Philippines, no problems yet. (a little over two years)

Sometimes where I use them, their processing company will tack on a small fee in addition of a 3% fee I pay my card company for overseas transactions.

As a side note, when I make purchases on Ali Express, their processing company is in the US so I don't pay a fee coming or going. But on Netflix payments I get charged a fee for making my monthly payment.

Hi! I’m in the same situation as you. Did you get to deposit or cash your check? Did the Landbank suggestion work? Thanks

sarahw45

Hello! I went with the Landbank option. And fortunately, they accepted it! Only need 100usd to open an account and it’ll take 30-40 days for the check to be cleared. So, I’m just waiting for now. May I ask, have you received your second stimulus check yet?

Dee628

Hi! Thanks for your reply. This is very helpful. :) To add, may I also ask what are the requirements they asked for when you opened the account with them? Anyway. I did receive my 2nd stimulus but I don’t get it mailed here in the Philiipines. I still use my US address and have my brother send it here. Hope you get yours soon! :)

sarahw45

Oh! I wish I had done that. Who knows where my check is now! 🤣 Anyways, they just asked for a valid ID, I used my American passport here but I think any will do. And they’ll also ask for your US social security number and maybe for the card... I didn’t bring mine with me cause I just memorized it, and they were fine. But maybe you should bring yours just in case! Last, 100 USD. Good luck!

Dee628

Nah it’s just probably taking long since it’s intl mail but you should receieve it soon. Good luck. :) Btw, thanks so much for all the info and help. Now i have two options, I have a savings acct w/ Maybank and they said I can open a dollar acct with them and get it deposited.. but it’s for approval! If that doesn’t work then I’ll go with Landbank. So yea, thanks again! Oh and fyi, we’re expecting another check from Pres Biden this time, hopefully it’ll get approved haha. :))

It will take more than good luck getting it timely through the Philippine mail system. If he receives it all, it probably will have expired (Hahaha).

If a postal worker stole it out of the mail, the worker would have no problem cashing it (Hahaha), but you, the rightful recipient on he other hand would find it impossible to cash.

Almost Related:

I use to pay my life insurance quarterly, Premium notices were sometimes 3 to 6 months late, if I received them at all. So now I do it paperless by email.

Another stimulus package was just approved in DC.  You may now be looking for two stimulus checks in the mail.

I went with out a bank account for several years.  they know should how to cash a check. Go to the Casino and they will gladly cash it for it or go to those cash advance places like money tree.

Hi.. Does RCBC accepts the US treasury check.?? i have tried BDO and BPI but they won't accept.

Metrobank and Landbank

Enzyte Bob

We have accounts at BDO and they wouldn't touch it with a 3 meter bamboo pole. I have accounts with CitiBank USA and CitiBank Manila wouldn't touch it with a 4 meter pole.

My stepson download an app from CitiBank USA, snap a picture on his smart phone and deposited the check in CitiBank USA

Note of caution: The app downloaded from CitiBank Manila wouldn't work. Had to download the app from CitiBank USA.

It was not a stimulus check but a check for over payment of income tax which I was not aware of until the check arrived at my re-mailer in the states, it was a happy surprise for me.

Another option is to obtain a prepaid debit card. I got one from Netspend. The basic option has no monthly fee, and only a $1.50 per transaction fee. Their app has a check deposit by photo option as well. You may have to have a US IP address to do some transactions, so I recommend Proton VPN, which has a totally free base plan that works quite well. I use it to stream TV shows from Pluto tv in the US.
It has a bank router and account number attached to your card, which I was able to provide to the IRS, and got my second and third stimulus checks direct deposited to that Netspend account.

Sumomaster2004

I use Fedex. Not sure how much it will cost you. I paid $77 to send it from Hawaii to PH.

Hi, I had received my 2nd stimulus check but I have been struggling how to send it over from my address in the US to PH. Can anyone please help me on how do you manage to send it to PH?on what courier, and how much does it cost?. Thank you

Before you consider sending the check to PH, have a plan how to cash it. Even though several solutions and ideas has been presented, don't take anyone's word on it, do your leg work and check it out for yourself. You don't want the cost of FedEx to get it here and then have to FedEx it back to the states.

The last mail from my re-mailer (9) letters cost me $48 by FedEx and I had it in several days. My re-mailer claims they have a special agreement to send mail overseas at a discount from FedEx, that may be a bunch Malarkey from my re-mailer.

If you still have a bank account in the states, have someone deposit it in your account in the states and use your debit card from the states to withdraw it in here the PH.

Sumomaster2004

How much is your check? My check was just $1200. Fedex didnt have a problem. Got it in 3 days.

I wonder why Fedex in NY did not accept my mail check, I have someone send it over to me last weekend, she was told fedex wont accept large amoun check, and that it should be covered by insurance sort of.

I would remove the check and place in a nondescript envelope then take it to FedEx to be re-mailed in one of their flats.

As of now it's obvious it's a government check, did your sender try to insure it? That's a NO NO.

When the check was issued to you it had a better chance of being stolen or cashed running through the US Postal system, compared to FedEx.

If you open an account at Security Bank they clear checks from the US in 8 banking days. I have deposited two checks with them and both cleared in 7 banking days. Good luck.

I have deposited checks from my CitiBank account into my BDO account. The check cleared Citibank the very next day. The check took almost a month to be credited by BDO.

YMMV

Carmina Francisco

Just wondering you open an Dollar account on them and deposited the stimulus check?

BC57

When I said the checks cleared I meant they were available in my account within 7 days to use. I didn't have to wait to use the money in 30 days or more like all of the over banks.

Carmina Francisco

I have a stimulus check that’s in hand of my friend in 🇺🇸 and I’m here Philippines and I’m planning to ask him to send the check to me and cash it in here in Philippine bank l. Does security bank accept stimulus check? What are the steps?

Cel YnH

Hi. May i know how much i need to open a dollar account at security bank.?

Sumomaster2004

$500

Carmina Francisco

Did IRS send it you directly here in the Philippines or you have a US address and someone mailed it you here in PH

Kim Camacho

Did you cashed the check already?

Carmina Francisco

I have a problem a guy who’s living now in my previous apartment which  used  lived too when I was in the US has my check and he send it back to IRS what should I do next is there any possible things to do. To send my check here in my Local address in Philippines

Kim Camacho

I have the same problem, I’ll be calling IRS to change address and ask for a payment trace.  Also if you want it to be sent here in PH you’ll get a problem to cash it, and it’ll take 3-6 months to be sent here. I had a debit card and my previous landlady Throw it away, I wanna change address too but I wanna used my uncle’s house address in US but I’m afraid I’ll get a check instead of the debit card. Anyone who can give me an answer too?

Carmina Francisco

I don’t think it will take 3-6mos to get here in Philippines have it mailed via FEDEX OR DHL it will just take few days
