Daily life in a D8 hem
Yesterday we finally got to get an aircon repairman to come. The bedroom unit broke right after lockdown started, so we had to wait. Actually only had a few days of weather where I missed having cool air at night. And the cool and rainy weather has helped. It has taken years, but I have adapted to where we set the thermostat (is that an archaic word now? How about, the "automatic digital temp sensor") to 28. Six years ago it would be 25.
The guys couldn't fix it. Say it is the "main board" and they took it, said they would come back today, 16:00, looks like they won't. They also cleaned the other three, but afterwards, couldn't get the one in the back room to work. Spent at least an hour on it, disassemble, reassemble, indoor thing, outdoor thing, work all the modes on the remote, etc. Finally make a lot of excuses in Vietnamese (I don't understand Vietnamese but I read body language) and promised they would handle it tomorrow.
Quiz: What would you do?
Exactly, me too! Reboot the remote!
I toggled the wall power switch, took the batteries out of the remote and reinserted, pressed button, works.
"Trial and error" seems to be the standard problem solving technique here.
Let's see if they guessed right on the main board.
My 40 year old sweetheart/partner in Quảng Ngãi received her 1st vaccine injection on October 25th (yesterday, Vietnam) in the afternoon.
At 8 PM her time she sent me a message that she was going to bed early because she felt "shaky".
I don't know what brand of vaccine they are receiving in her province (she is 12 km Southwest of Quảng Ngãi City at Hải Châu, Nghĩa Hiệp).
I hope she wakes up feeling better...
🙏

She says she slept okay and feels better this morning.
Only a little headache.
She received one of those "Vero cells" vaccines from China.
Just back from a run up to D12 on the old Mobylette to check my flat there, then over to the money shop to change some USD. Last week 23,100 exchange, today 23,338, life is good again. Had a good run out & great to see everything pretty much back to normal. Something sort of comforting/reassuring to see the plastic trash everywhere, guys openly peeing at the side of the road, sit down coffee shops open & full, social distancing seems to be a thing of the past for some anyways.
Daily Life, late October - Saigon
The 2 hour rule
Wife had to pop into work - first time in months - to drop off things and pick up a covid test kit. She will need to test herself before she is allowed to go in to work next week.
Why didn't she need a test yesterday? Because she was in the office less than 2 hours. Next week, she will be in the office more than 2 hours, so naturally for that kind of exposure, she will have to be tested first.
BTW work is a clinic on the campus of major government hospital treating covid.

Today - lunch in a restaurant !
Restos/cafes have been closed since July 9.
Can't serve alcohol in D1 yet. Whatever. The future is coming back.
-- La Fiesta on Lý Tự Trọng behind Chợ Bến Thành
Daily Life Bonus
I predict this brand new cafe, made with distressed wood and tin to look old, so revolutionary, will be The Most Popular in Saigon with foreign AND Vietnamese tourists. Maybe help govt to realize the restoration value of real old architecture.
Huh, knocked down a new building to put in ghetto.
Have I ever seen a wood building in Vietnam? Haven't been to the mountains yet. Bangkok still has lots like this in sois.

If you never seen a wooden building in Vietnam you need to get out more & dont need to go to the mountains either.

You two are looking great!
Hopefully the future holds another opportunity for us to get together.
Cheers!
Just back in from morning walk & great to see its life as normal. Keeps me sharp & alert in the morning dodging shuttle cocks, wildly flailing badminton rackets & badminton players taking over the walking paths ways even when there are many
open spaces where they can play.
& hey you learn something new every day here, never knew that wearing a mask round your chin or round your elbow was a proven & effective Covid protection & complied with the M5 directive.
Vietnam will resume commercial flights with other countries
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh agreed in principle to resume commercial flights with countries and territories with a high safety factor and appropriate epidemic prevention measures.
The Government Office conveyed the above directive of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, on October 29. The Ministry of Transport was assigned to urgently submit a plan to resume international regular commercial flights before November 5.

So "the plan" is to be submitted by Nov 5th.
Your choice of bold highlight has it appear that flights are to resume then.
😉

I was pointing out that there was urgent plans for international flights to restart and they were to submit a plan by Nov 5th.
I highlighted the part because they wanted a plan to restart flight by Nov 5th, the old news was talk of July 2022 so it is a huge leap in getting things going again.

My bad for not reading through the entire article, and for assuming in my head that this basically affects tourist traffic.
I think people such as THIGV will see a ray of hope in that article, because it addresses the issue of Vietnamese outside Vietnam, inferring to me that spouses and other people waiting to enter the country holding valid VEC's would likely be included in the first wave (maybe in time for Tết?).
Only a pilot program for tourists appears to be considered at that same time, to "welcome international tourists to some localities such as Phu Quoc, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ninh..."
So basically it seems that Phú Quốc Island, the Nha Trang area and the Hạ Long Bay area are being considered for the first tourist pilot programs.
I could live within those limitations...
Life just gets better & better, 23,340 to the USD today at the money place.

Already making plans. We won't be there for Tet but are planning for Jun/Jul as that is when I am not in school and we can have a longer stay. I know that it may be rainy but that is the chance we will have to take.

We are never going to get to zero cases, now we have to learn to live with covid
I agree we have to live with Covid and it is up to us to take precautions. We messed it up and we cannot always ask God to help us.🙏

Hahaha, ask God, youre kidding me!
Thank you for your reply, and I respect your opinion😊. However, I rather listen and take advice from God🙏. No kidding! Hahaha, rather, you know who😂? Take care and be safe, and may God bless you🙏.
No not you😊 I was referring to Erikji attempting to explain to us with a diagram of new Covid wave?

This looks like a totally bogus chart, based upon what's been reported so far over the course of the pandemic.
Would you care to share the source?
Maybe you made it yourself?

Just curious and difinitely NOT trying to make a point but do you know if different people in that family became sick or if the same people had COVID for a second time?

Sorry dont know & I am not going to knock on the door & ask yep 100% stay away
Be very interesting to know how they isolated positives in an apartment if some did not get sick last time.
Unless they all dressed up in full blue suits and masks it would have been a horrific task for 2 wks.
My GF's sister got it and the whole house was positive too it got them all before they even knew she was sick.
Also interesting is how long ago did they have it?

Out in Go Dau they have 500 new cases ... Looks like the lock down easing might have been a little early. Bad news of this new round of cases is a sign of things to come.
I still think opening up was the only sensible option.

What's the current percentage there of people who test positive and then become seriously ill and require hospitalization?
Or are they still doing that thing where anybody who tests positive has to go into one of those isolation camps?

Use the quote function when replying to someone.

Opening up was fine, letting people from highly infected areas travel to other provences seems to be a big issue.
