Hello everybody,

The COVID-19 crisis inevitably impacts Oman, between closed airports or periods of containment in some cities or even the entire country .
We would like to hear from you during this unusual period, to find out what the consequences of this pandemic are on your expatriation or expatriation project in Oman.

Does the current crisis call into question your long-term expatriation project?
If you are already settled in Oman, do you plan to return to your home country?

How are you living through such an uncertain period, especially if you are far from your loved ones?

Have any of you ended your expatriation in Oman unexpectedly?

Paradoxically, has this crisis brought you closer to some people?

What are your plans for the future?

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Hope you are doing well.

Loïc.

Good afternoon
Nobody wants to be in a lockdown, but it is essential.
My days are full looking after my house, cooking and so forth.  I possibly watch more TV and am enrolled in ballet exercise class on line from the UK.  I am also joining another class which has been sponsored by PDO.  You have to just relax and take each day as it comes.  Personally I am glad not to be rushing about, and although I miss company of friends we survive.  What’s app etc is brilliant for keeping in touch.  We also played a quiz with our families in London, and Sydney yesterday(Easter Sunday)  on line which was the best of fun.  I think we have to change our ways.  Another good thing is the quietness around us, be it in your gardens, or on the roads.  Also the lack of pollution be it in the air or on the beaches.
The Omani government are doing a great job and I applaud their free access for treatment and testing for all.
Keep happy, stay safe and stay in.
Jane Martin.

Hey thanks for checking in on all of us

I came to Muscat on 3rd of Feb 2020 & got straight into my job. Did not get a chance to go back & meet the family back in Dubai. Had planned to get them here during small school break they had but all started closing up. We have been very lucky here with all the care & precautions by the government, authorities & our firm. We are in essential construction sector & working with permissions & necessary precautions in place. Yes it gets very lonely sometimes especially Fridays & holidays nut good to keep self busy & informed & not dwelve or fret so much about the uncertainty tomorrow. It does not help to worry & rather stay as positive as one can. We are lucky to have modern forms of communications where video calls are at the tips of fingers with family & friends. All we can do is pray & hope all will be normal soon all over the world & to keep all safe. Oman is a beautiful place again. Thank you

Very hard for families who are split up.  Perhaps something could be done to make sure this is corrected.

Due to the completion of the project assigned to me and advanced age, I retired from my job on last 31st March. I was supposed to return on 5th April to my home in India and this could not happen due to cancellation of flights. My resident visa is due to expire on 28th April, 2020. All my household materials have been sea freighted and housing lease is expiring next month end. We (self and my wife) want to return India as soon as possible and that now seems to be remote. I am also not sure about how will be the exiting formalities in immigration once the travelling starts.

Nobody wants to be in a lockdown, but it is very important for our own safety.
My days are full of looking after the house and make sure everywhere is clean, cooking and so forth.  I possibly watch more TV, CNN and BBC for news update to actually know what's happening globally, play video game and exersice on a daily basis. It's has been tough here in Nigeria cause the government don't really provide support financially to the masses and millions of people have lost their job during this lockdown which actually make some youth robbing their neighborhood and it's very sad. sometimes I really wish have moved to Oman a while ago but its never too late and that will actually be my first step to take after this whole lockdown period...thank you.

I feel really bad and there are lots of uncertainties about restrictions imposed for movement within governates. Our offices and sites still working and although we are keep on monitoring our work force for any COVID-19 symptoms, still there is a risk of getting infected in case someone will be there who have not shown symptoms but himself is a carrier of disease.
In the other hand we are alone here far away from our family and they are in a fear about me and I'm in a fear about them. There is no good psychological atmosphere for work either.  And the other hand we haven't been paid for months and our families struggling to purchase rations without money. Therefore I'm thinking to go back to my country soon after this pandemic issue.

Hai every one
Here, all members used to share the life style in oman, during this corona virus period.
But I here want to share the impacts of a person, who is being work in muscat but locked in his home country due to corona Curfew.
Yes. This is me.
I came to India last month during my busy work schedule upon handover a current construction project in muscat.
Because, my mother had cancer in lungs and I need to take care of her.
When I come to India, there was not much restrictions and no plans about Curfew plans du e to corona.
Later, all of sudden in one night, the flight service between countries were canelled. The hospitals like cancer treatment center and scan center were closed in india.
We were intimated that the Curfew would be for 21 days. That means till today. But today again the Curfew has been extended till may 3 In india. Now I neither can take lead for my mother cancer treatment nor I can come bakc to muscat to rejoin to duty. Moreover my visa is going to expire at first week of next month. All problems came together and sat on my head now.
Since my birth, I never met issue like what we face now.
Jumma prayer cancelled.
Social distance needs to be maintained.
World is suffering due to corona virus but till date we are not able to find the remedial medicne.
In this situation, all we need to have is only hope.
God will not test people beyond their limit.
We hope for best and soon we will hear good news.
Thanks for offering me to express my feelings.

Thanks for ur email. My experience is as under(typical indian govt school students like) :

1. I came here on 19 feb. Never went into kitchen earlier. Learning from scratch, cooking makes you realize that its damn foolish to pinpoint someone's mistakes. Just eat what u got and thanks god. Learnt a lot of cooking staff in addition to the above wisdom in just 20-25 days while working from home. My wife who is teaching me thro video calling is investing in her future, of course.
2. My family visa got delayed bcoz of corona. And it hurts. Miss my family, my 3.5 year old kid. When will I get this time again so much time to spend with family and getting paid too.
3. Education of my child may get delayed, his admission and so on. U know worried Indian stupid parents.
4. Working from home is fun actually. It will become a norm in modern society for sure. Saves lot of pollution, electricity consumption etc. one can add so much to the list.

I guess that's it.

Cheers! (Only cheers, bye from a Teetotaler telling his story)

Hey!  so far so good. Working from home. Doing online courses . Doing exercise every day. Food and essentials are available. So no complaints . I hope the situation will improve fast. In case this situation continues like this for another two or three months it's going to be very tough. Can't complain any body. There could be measures like salary reduction , salary cut or job loss. I am very much concerned on the poor construction labourers many of them may not get salary. The expat community should do some pooling of funds and help them .
