Hello everyone.
I'm a traveler and come from California ,USA. I've been staying in Ho Chi Minh city for 4 months ago, before the lockdown due to Covid-19, cannot back to USA. I love the life here and have some friends. They tell me I need to stay at home, doing exercises, eating healthy foods... to improve my immue system. The other neccesary stuff for my daily life i 've got easily but I don't know much about healthy foods. Would you mind recommend me some nutritious foods and where to buy them in Tan Binh District or near this place? I have back up money for emergency like this so the price doesn't matter.
I'm looking for the answer. Thank you for reading.

Hi -

When you say 'healthy food', I think of fresh fruit and vegetables. But maybe you mean supplements such as chia seed, flax seed oil, etc.?

If you mean fresh fruits and vegetables, all local markets have that although some people may mention the chemical fertilizers and pesticides, so you may need to look for organic shops if you are concerned about that. Supermarkets and places like VinMart also have a variety of fresh produce, both imported and locally grown.

For the other type of 'health food', some shops on Ham Nghi Street in District 1 have been mentioned on previous threads.

Anyway, please let us know what specific type of food you are looking for.

Hello Carolyn.
Welcome to Vietnam. I'm so sorry for you coming here at a time like this, making you uncomfortable for traveling around this nice HCM city. There's a lot of  foods that helping you healthy like: fresh fruits, vegetables, non-cholesterol food. If you live at Tan Binh District, come to Coop Mart Supermarket, there are plenty of good foods like I mention before here. I recommend you look for "Nuoc yen ngan nhi Nature", it tastes good and easy to drink. It contains swiftlet bird nest (called "yen sao" in Vietnamese), it provides a lot of nutritions good for your health.
I hope this would help you.

Binh Hoa Xen. It's a green store. They are all over the place. Fresh fruit, vegetables, meat  and fish. I doubt that they are organic. Most pharmacies you see are probably into magical herbs and spices. It's easy to tell the difference. A real pharmacy doesn't have huge jars of liquid with a snake or scorpion in them. LOL.  Local markets. If you can't say what you want then write it down (in Vietnamese, Google it) and show the staff or merchants. They'll try really hard to help you.

Hi Carolyn.
The lockdown is over and I hope you have enjoyed your trip at Sai Gon here. As I recommend above, you could buy Swiftlet bird nest as sourvenir, our most popular brand is Khanh Hoa, it's kinda good for your health. I have bought some of them from this: toyensaovietnam.com, they have good services and free ship. Thank you for traveling to our country.
