Entrepreneurs in New Zealand : how does the crisis impact your work

Loïc

Hello everyone,

As the world comes to a halt, we wanted to hear from the entrepreneurs in New Zealand.
While new challenges arise from the current context, we think this is a good time to share your story, especially if you are a business owner in New Zealand.
That's why we invite you to answer the following questions:

What is your industry and the size of your company located in New Zealand?

How does the crisis impact you, financially, economically and personally? On the other hand, have you seen new business opportunities emerge?

Have you managed to set up a teleworking approach? If so, how was the transition?

Have you had to take difficult measures? Do you mind sharing them with us and tell us what you learnt from them?

Do you have any advice to give or practices that you have put in place that you would like to keep at the end of the crisis?

We thank you for your participation and wish you a good day :)

Stay safe,

Loïc

Greetings to all of you,

I came to New Zealand with my family in 1997. When Immigration New Zealand used to be called "New Zealand Immigration Services" with a slogan "New Zealand is the Right Choice"

We came to our dream land under the General Migrant Category; only to find out like so many others that we are over qualified!; we were rejected and declined access to employment for many reason such as lack of New Zealand Experience, Different culture, for example.

Personally, I felt that New Zealand Immigration Services provided me and others "False  and misleading information"  ; but diffidently no one has the courage to admit it. It was my problem; discovered that New Zealand is not difficult but it is so different from the rest of the world.  So I started my freelance interpreting and translation work, which was totally different from my work and qualifications; and started from below Zero. May God bless New Zealand.

I am still working, but with so many hats and jobs, i.e. Translator "All languages" and Arabic legal Interpreter and a Justice of the Peace for New Zealand serving our community at large; a father of five; and a grandfather of Nine.

My children grown up, like their parents all are hard working and own their chain of restaurants, cafes, diaries ; school, clinic, accounting service etc. WE MADE NEW ZEALAND the RIGHT CHOICE; we employ Kiwis, holiday workers and provide first class service to neighborhood and community.

Until recent covid 19 crisis; and as the world comes to a halt, as we become entrepreneurs in New Zealand by force not by choice, I would answer you questions as follow and share our story: .

Q - What is your industry and the size of your company located in New Zealand?
A - We are in Translation, Interpreting, Takeaways, cafes, restaurants, and located in Auckland, and services provided to cover all New Zealand

Q - How does the crisis impact you, financially, economically and personally? On the other hand, have you seen new business opportunities emerge?
A- Yes, it did impact us, financially, economically and emotionally but not much compared with other industries! For one reason - Diversity of business activities and support of each other as a family. Yes, there are new emerging business opportunities "But it is confidential"

Q- Have you managed to set up a teleworking approach? If so, how was the transition?
A - Yes, enhanced my / our existing teleworking; so we did not feel or suffer a great transition.

Q - Have you had to take difficult measures? Do you mind sharing them with us and tell us what you learnt from them?
A - No

Q- Do you have any advice to give or practices that you have put in place that you would like to keep at the end of the crisis?
A- Stay safe and diversify your work and activities. Grow your fruits, hubs, and vegetables

Kind regards,

S. AYYUB
