Hello All,

We are being given the run a round by a well known estate agent in Paphos who is refusing to give us back our deposit without good reason.

Is there an association or board that we can approach or do we need to get a lawyer involved?

Thank you

Nick

Hello,

It is not a region / country that I know. But for this style of unforeseen situation, I always contact the Embassy. Because they always have contact lists (lawyers, translators, doctors, ...) ...

Do you have a rental contract? what does that say? Is it signed by both parties and witnessed? Is it tax stamped by the tax dept? Why is he refusing to give you a refund... is it justified?  have you broken the contract? are there any damages ?does he have valid reason to refuse refund? Has the landlord declared the rental and is the landlord paying tax on his income? Is the property registered as a rental property?

Rental Boards usually only cover social rented housing and not private rents.. Even written contracts for private rentals are almost worthless and in my experience here so far  - ( a pleasant one to date) are only as good as both parties trust reliability honesty and integrity are - similarly for the agent  - maybe find out if the agent is a private agent or an accredited agent or a member of an estate agents association?

LAWYERS

or maybe try speaking to someone at the citizens service centre in Paphos on Butcher Boy Road...they are usually very helpful and may be able to direct you...

Good luck

In my experience elsewhere in similar situations a simple solicitors / lawyers letter is usually enough to scare a rogue agent and force them to cough up... Please feel free to PM me as id like to know who the agent is

another tack to consider is ask these questions on their public face book pages and keep doing so until they respond and private message them too.... find out who runs the office or the directors of it and write email message phone them too..
