No Neck Ed (American) hooked up with Rose (Filipina) on TLC's 90 day fiance'. She is in her 20's and Ed is in his 50's.
This should be a warning to all you guys who want to find a Filipina online. Do a youtube search for No Neck Ed.
This will be the story is typical of your future and for some of you expats you might see a guy (Ed Brown) or a Filipina (Rosemarie Vega) who you swear could be you or your dream girl.
Cliff Notes Version: Ed has an online romance with Rose, sends her $5,000 USD worth of supplies & gifts. Both has lied to each other, ED said he was 5' 2" but is really 4" 11" and morbid. While Rose is from the provinces, her online photos seem glamorous but is really a "five" in real life.
They meet and go shopping, everytime Ed opens his wallet to pay, Rose reaches into the wallet and takes the money out and Ed is getting a little annoyed. Now Rose's sister ask Ed for money, Rose denies knowing anything about this.
This fool Ed puts themselves up at an expensive hotel in Manila, then they fly out to Palawan and they stay at another expensive hotel. Now Ed's dream of a submissive Filipina is in doubt, because Rose has a mind of her own. (I think she is acting this way because of the disdain for Ed).
He has a nightgown for Rose, a honeymoon nightgown and Rose doesn't know what it is. The second night he finally hits a home run after he gets Rose drunk. Then he complains about her hairy legs and gives her a bottle of mouthwash, telling her she has bad breath.
She feelings are hurt and embarrassed. She will carry these feeling forward. (Filipina women are over sensitive and do get their feelings hurt easily, compared to American women).
They take a trip to the provinces to meet her family and Ed is appalled at their living conditions, no window glass, sleeping on the floor and typical provincial bathroom and more.
As the drama goes on he knows he has been had, his own fault and she has been conned falling victim because her motives that Expats walking ATM's.
There are many youtube clips, some long and some short. Even after Ed returns to the states there is a bitter verbal and video war going on in social media between them. They both think they are media celebrities after being on 90 day bride on TLC.
Again for all you future Expat Fools that won't take advise, seeing is believing, but of course you won't believe. It's the other fool, not you.
Now some of you went beyond this stage, maybe we will see you on youtube next.
Again do a search on Youtube for No Neck Ed.
A great way to start this thread W9XR, while some of your rhetoric I can relate to in my early days here, learned quickly I did and hope others reading your submission heed, and heed well, good and relevant topic.
Cheers, Steve.
Actually that's the
'Boys Life" version for all you Boy Scouts out there!
I wish to God there was a pill we could give you to save you guys!!!

Maybe a little too late, but another possible exit strategy to work on!

W9XR - That's the best public service announcement I've ever seen. Good job! I did see a couple of episodes of Ed and Rose on TV and was blown away (why do people agree to have their lives recorded and broadcast?).

Yep agree that the OP's post is very relevant and well written, I'm sure touches a lot of expats, myself included. While I have never bothered to look at Ed and Rose's exposes I get the gist as there is relevance to my life on not a few occasions though the costs were very small. I am a gay guy, the inferences are the same, 51 when I was chased by a 20 Y/O that I rejected because of the age difference time and again. The other altercations were 33, 30 and 27, plenty of other prospectives, while yes young were opportunists with a thin veil. Mr 20 was well rounded, old head on young shoulders that to this day teaches me many things including finding myself and real values even how to save money.
Well, 8 odd years on, 60 and 29 we are happy and the love works through the problems not the dollars.
I think the best think that happened to my better half was getting him permanent residency in OZ and sharing the load with work commitments, job, working on the farm, social interactions and seeing how "rich westerners" live and cope. We are not all gravy trains but comfortable by his old standards and now appreciates where those dollars/pesos come from.
My ex wife of 22 years appears to be still learning as are my 2 kids. I pulled the pin on them years ago and they keep bitching.
Cheers, Steve.
Thanks for sharing, Steve. I am also on the mostly-lucky side of this. Met me filipina wife in Taipei 37 years ago and we've lived across the US and a couple of years in the UK. Now time to settle down in retirement outside CDO. She's worked in the beauty biz and so had justification for the hundreds of shoes, dresses and jewelry she's accumulated over the years. And we've contributed comfortable amounts to family medical and schooling needs. I'm hoping that help will be paid back in our old age - they have promised. We'll see - getting pretty close to getting on a plane (she's been stuck there but we video chat every day).
Cheers,
-- Rich
Age makes no difference. I married the so the love of my life. me 65, she 40. She became the nightmare of a lifetime. Confession: My heart override my head, I really didn't take enough time to know her well. 2 years in a long distance relationship and she didnt show her colors until 3 months before the marriage. Sadly, I was already married to her for 2 weeks when the ,,,, floated to the top. Currently have the most wonderful girl on the planet, she is 27. Age is not a factor, I have seen many many success stories where if age had mattered, they would never have been together today.

Well rcvining,
We have many things in common, my wife Aida also has a real $$$ collection of bags, shoes & jewelry accumulated over the years in the states, but the justification is that she is a Filipina.
We also (both), while living & working in the states provided for the kids, the first thing we did was to take them out of public schools and send them to private schools, then sent them to college.
Now my oldest stepson (Jermie) is a nurse in England and he and Aida are sceaming to buy "me" a Toyota Innova. ("me" hahahahaha)
Back in the states I drove a Toyota Camry till it was ready for the junk yard. Online I was looking for a Camry, online Aida was looking for a Lexus. I found a nice pre owned Camry on a lot, we left with a Lexus RX 330, Aida had her Lexus. (matches her handbags).

Kenny Rodgers said "know when to hold them, know when to fold them".
I figure you are on the plus side of 65 and she is on the minus side of 30.
Kenny Rodgers also said "Ruby don't take your love to town".

Yes Kenny Rogers gives sound advice!
& there's always the "Shantui" to take care of any loose ends!

No Neck Ed owns these?
I don't think No Neck Ed can afford a car! LOL! But no problem as it is not even close to topic! We did it again! In 5 minutes will do it again and again!

Careful, I noticed we have a new sensor monitoring this forum. She must have missed your post, possibly polishing the Shantui SD22.
Last count I believe there are five of them, that's more than the active posters.
Sincerely yours

Poor Rosemarie Vega (LOL)..she must have been under the impression that he was someone as rich & famous as No Neck Danny De Vito!
Just Saying!
Tell me the old old story.
An older, morbidly fat (not to mention exceptionally ugly) idiot mistakes lust for love (or doesn't care because he hasn't had it in years) when he 'meets' his dream slave girl online. He now has an object he hopes for sex with, and maybe even someone to wash his brown striped underwear.
The woman, Who is most likely a money grabbing tart because who the merry hell else would even look at him, is probably hoping for a load of cash and a visa.
He goes to meet her, TV crew in tow, and finds out he's an idiot.
This really bad acting gets them a few dollars and a holiday in a nice hotel from the TV company for making themselves look stupid, and gets an online debate going.
From an expat point of view, it's a great lesson in how not to be a silly sod.
From a TV entertainment point of view, it's utter crap.

Very entertaining, but the story line was made up for TV, like the showering with her dad, and NNE slopping pigs. The toothbrushes and toothpaste and lingerie were there for entertainment.
Why a man would date a single mom in Philippines or elsewhere is beyond me.

Well Munchie,
40 to 50% of marriages end up in divorce. May-December marriages even worse, far worse for Expats in the Philippines.
An interesting article in AARP delves into this. 13 years of data, 8,682 couples in Australia, you can view the article at:
https://tinyurl.com/May-December-Marriages
My beliefs are, especially between Westerners and Filipinas, when a Filipina turns 40 and her Expat husband is 75. He may become a home care project and Ruby may start to feel her oats.
He better get a ball and chain or live with it.
Seems I hit a nerve when you call me a judgemental SOB.

NNE caused ratings to reach an all time high on 90 Day Fiancee. His cartoon character personna really made it funny.
Really embarassing for his family to have their dad act so goofy.
Dating single moms in the Philippines"!
...Well there are *some genuine lovely/sincere pinoy single moms out there too!

Maybe because you liked her? Maybe because she's more mature? Nothing wrong with dating a single mom. Most Filipinas want at least one child, if not more. No way I wanted kids at 59, when I met my GF. So problem solved. Her ex is completely out of the picture and I've had the pleasure of helping teach and guide a boy who was 6 then and is now a respectful, talented and smart teenager. From fighting other kids and failing first grade to top of his class. We brought another one onboard when his dad (her brother) died of cancer. They are very different but both great kids. Never a problem. Have them both in private schools. We go hiking, fishing, and on trips to other islands.
My dad wasn't around at all when I was a kid (worked overseas himself, then they divorced) and I wished there had been a man around to do things with and learn from. So yeah.. that's one of the reasons I suppose. It certainly is a lot more work and restrictive than just dating young single women, but it's also *much* more rewarding. She and I have plenty of private time, she keeps an immaculate house, and we take a trip every year to another country in the region so it works out.

Great inspirational post pnwcyclist!
Agreed!
Thanks manwonder. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
Glad you have had a positive experience. My personal experience with a single mom in the US was quite different. The kid was higher up on the pecking order, could not do anything wrong in his mom's eyes.
