Hello! We are a family of 3 looking into moving from SA to Mauritius. My husband works offshore oil and I am a qualified hairdresser. How would we be able to live in Mauritius without applying for immigration and all the other necessary requirements that I've been reading about such as investment?  My husband will only be with us every second month as he works in another country. We basically would like to first see if we would consider making it a long term possibility.  Many Thanks!

The only solution will be to buy a PDS/RES worth≥ USD 500K .
Upon purchase of an apartment at a price exceeding USD 500,000 or its equivalent in any convertible currencies, a non-citizen is eligible to apply for a long-stay visa.  A long stay visa allows a non-citizen and his dependents to stay for a consecutive period of ten (10) years, renewable depending on the status of ownership.  It remains valid so long as the non-citizen holds the apartment.A non-citizen wishing to apply for a long-stay visa has to make an application to the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Board (EDB).

In this case, you can come on a tourist visa good for 6 months in a calendar yr whereby you can rent a house and explore the island to see whether you can live in Mauritius .

I will direct message you my whatsapp.

Hi

I would suggest you to come over for a period of 3 months. You can rent a house of your choice anywhere then you decide.
No need to invest so much of money right now. See how you will be able to adjust in our country. Then you can decide after.

Hi Janine
Further to  your message, I also suggest that you apply for a tourist visa , (of course it will not be now, as our airport is closed and yours as well  up to beginning of next year, I heard).  This will enable you to visit the country and evaluate if that suits your requirements or not.  There was a South African family which was blocked at my place during the lockdown (more than 2 months).  Fortunately we have been able to assist them to get a flight to Johannesburg last month)
If you need any other information, please feel free to ask
Regards
Nicole
