I've just taken out a health insurance policy. The agent is asking if I want the documents in English or VIetnamese, or both.

Would it be useful to have them in both languages or is English only enough?

I can only think of a scenario where a hospital/clinic says something is not covered, then I can look it up in the English version then find the same clause in the Vietnamese version and show it to them.

Is there any other scenarios ?

Is it going to cost more to also get a Vietnamese version?

If so, is the cost very significant?

To me it seems to be a no-brainer that while in Vietnam you would want to have the documents in both languages.

Especially since Vietnamese law probably recognizes the text of the Vietnamese document but does not necessarily recognize the text of the English translation.

Because that's the legal gist here: One of these is the official document and the other one is a translation and not necessarily an official document.

If you are being asked to pay more to get the Vietnamese version, I would tell them that the Vietnamese version needs to be included and the English translation should be optional.

I would definitely not pay anything more for the Vietnamese version while in Vietnam.

My insurance has always been in both languages. When applying for the insurance, the exclusions are usually on their webpage.
