Temporary relocation- seeking accommodation advice

Post new topic

Alex227

Hi everyone!

My spouse and I are considering relocating to the Dominican Republic in August for up to 5 months. I write to ask for recommendations with regard to finding accommodation on the island. We are thinking about moving to Santo Domingo, but we are also exploring other options.

A little bit about us: we live in New York City and are both in grad school. Because of covid, we are able to take classes online this fall, which is why we are thinking about spending the fall semester elsewhere. Our goal is to experience living in a cool new place and save money.

We are looking for an affordable, quiet place with an excellent internet connection in a location where we can live comfortably without a car. We would highly appreciate any advice you could provide with regard to finding accommodation or relocating to DR in general. Thanks for your time!

You might want to check with the US Embassy in DR. I believe they’ve made an announcement last week that US Citizens are restricted from entering DR at this time due to Covid.

They are not restricted but it is not recommended.  Our Covid is out of control right now.  And the highest numbers are in Santo Domingo!  While I appreciate the opportunity to try something new,  its not a good idea!

If something happens you will have NO insurance for medical help.   Travel insurance will NOT cover a pandemic.

Thank you both for your input. I hope the situation in DR gets better soon!

Thanks so do we!  Unfortunately we are also in an election year and now a change of government. The change happens August 16 and until then little if any progress is being made.

That is unfortunate. We are also in the election year, and I, similarly, do not expect much progress here till after the elections, if we are lucky. Would have been great to take a break and go somewhere nice, too bad the time isn't great for it.

The thing is we are in election year as well and we are waiting how the new administration will handle the current situation.
Fup on the measures of the new government and wait for the numbers to go down.
No doubt we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully soon.
