Richard Wooten

Hello All

After living abroad for 28 years, in Europe and Asis, I am now back in the U.S, since 2012 and missing the life style that I enjoyed for so long, and Las Vegas is not at all close to a substitute. I have been doing some research and Costa Rica appears to be what I have been looking for. Have never set foot in the country and would like to know where to start. I am looking for a location t. good medical facilities, close to the water and a community that is expat friendly. If some one could suggest a good location to land and start my search, it would sure help. I am single and not dead yet and still enjoy a little entertainment. I want to live this last chapter of my life in luxury and happy.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Richard,
Let me start by saying we are 66 and 69, have lived full time in Costa Rica for 9 yrs. We started by visiting various parts of the country but knew we wanted warmer weather close to the Pacific beaches. There are many different climates here from cool mountain lakes with pines to very tropical beach towns with dryer weather.
Residency is recommended and once obtained via your Social Security check of $1200 a month or higher, full medical care is mandatory and is ridiculously affordable. Please message me for details on anything you'd like. ***

Hi Empresshara,
I was reading your post and I am in the same position you were 9 years ago.
I have just turned 60 and keep up a very healthy and fit lifestyle.
I am looking for a farm allotment or similar to have a sustainable lifestyle.
I will come and take a visit to CR first and was wondering what would be the best places to visit to judge the best conditions. I like the cool mountain lakes or parts of the country which are fertile and natural.
Also is would mot likely help to learn some conversational spanish i would imagine.
Any other pitfalls or good areas to visit would be most helpful.

Thank you

Empresshara, when was the financial requirement of the 'guaranteed for life' pension raised from $1000 to $1200 per month? I can't find reference to this.

I've been happy in Jaco (& my condo is for sale! lol).  Its a small beach town of about 5,000 year round (20,000 in peak season), that's laid back, but still has some bars and entertainment, including a big fancy casino at the north end of town.  I'm sure there's lots of similar towns tho.  Its only about 90 min. from the airport, which was important to me coming and going every year, however that's not really a concern if you're staying.
Be sure to move to the West coast, as crime is much higher on the east coast.  Good luck!

Thanks CanFarmBoy much appreciate your help.

As far as I know the monthly income for a pensionado residency status is only $1,000 a month.

San Ramon has a lot of farmland, and the land tends to be cheaper here than in many other parts of the Central Valley. We are about 45 minutes away from the international airport near San Jose. There are mountains around the San Ramon area between 5000 feet and 2,500 feet, depending on where you look. San Ramon is a town that has everything but is not A big city. If anyone wants more information about San Ramon you can private message me.
