I have received a job offer to work in Malaysia and the company is currently preparing documents to register with the ESD. I understand this takes up to 2 weeks for them to do so. Once they are registered and submit my application, does anyone know how long it typically takes for a successful EP application? Might there be any delays due to the covid situation? And finally I understand that I will need to quarantine upon arrival, but will I also need to provide a negative covid result from my home country upon arrival? Thank you.

1. 10-15 working days for the issue of Approval Letter after your employer submits application.

2. Once you have arrived in Malaysia (clutching your Approval Letter) and surrender your passport for endorsement, it takes 3-5 working days for the Employment Pass to be stuck onto a blank page.

There  were no delays in the process when I renewed my EP this month.

Situation here is a bit fluid at the moment with regards entry/exit. At the time of writing, no negative covid test is required from from country of origin prior to arrival, but you *will* be tested on arrival. And yes, you will also need to do 14 day quarantine, which is usually a 2 week stay in a hotel, making your own bed and collecting food when they leave it outside your door (you will not be allowed out of your room)

There is currently a ban on entry for those arriving from countries with >150k cases.

As per client charter ESD is one month, but will get the approval within a week maximum in normal days.

But now the condition is different, if you are outside of country, they even not taken any EP 2 & EP 3 visa categories. Myself change of Employer, out of country  EP 1 category, my new employer applied in 11th Aug and still now waiting for approval. As per other peoples experience, it would take 1.5 to 2 months during this pandemic, especially if you are outside of country, it will take more also. Better asked your employer to check with ESD.

Anyhow good luck for your new job...

Hey George,

i also have the same conditions wherein my employer has applied for my visa twice and both time it got rejected and yes you can also check your application status through mentioned link.
i think if you don't have much corona cases in your country then they will process it soon as compare to other countries who have cases >150k.
