Punta Cana Visit Around Christmas 2020

Post new topic

sspaic

I would like to visit Punta Cana end of mid-Dec 2020 to mid-Jan 2020.  Does anyone have information in curfews?  Is it safe to walk on the Bavaro beach, early morning or later afternoon?  How are supplies in the grocery stores (National, Jumbo)?

Any input would from the expats living in El Cortico would be appreciated.

planner

Curfew is weekdays at  9pm,   saturday sunday and holidays is  7pm until  5 am.

Everything is available pretty much as normal!   Yes its  safe to walk the beaches in public areas.

And welcome to the forums!

No issues with supplies in supermarket though fruits and vegetables could be little better in quality.

That's great news!  I assume there are no issues with gas supplies neither.  Right?

planner

No issues at all.

I would like to hear from people with 'boots on the ground' in Punta Cana now.

Specifically...
What happens at arrival at airport?
Any testing, special screening being done?
Mask requirement?
Special insurance required?

At hotels.
Mask requirement, if so where/when?
Any other special requirements at hotels?
What percentage of hotels are open now?
What capacity are most operating at now?

Thanks!

DRVisitor

What happens at arrival at airport? Business as usual but can be selected for random testing
Any testing, special screening being done? Yes but have not seen anyone selected though they have a table for it
Mask requirement? Yes
Special insurance required? No

I do not stay at hotel so no feedback.

Hotels will  vary depending where you stay.   For the most part masking up and social distancing  especially in restaurants.   No masking in pools obviously.

Be aware that  some hotels are  involved in a promotion of internal tourism. There are some " special rates " for locals to enjoy the hotels. Most of the times this is on weekends.

Hotel occupancy is  limited to 50% so social distancing can apply.  Other rules like no coffee makers in the rooms,  not using rooms side by side,  and allowing rooms to  stay empty a couple days between guests!

Thanks DRVisitor and Planner for your info it is helpful.

Planner I've been to Punta Cana a couple of times.
Once 10 years ago and once last Christmas for a few days.

The first time I stayed at the Princess Hotel and the food was very good in all their restaurants.
The last time I was in PC (at another hotel) the food was not nearly as good. Beach was also weedy.
Do you have any hotels you would recommend for food and beach?

Secrets was truly amazing!

RE: Special Insurance

If you stay at a participating hotel - the gov't insures you for CV19

Important point for some

And some airlines offer the same

DRVisitor

Also, as a side note Uber has started in Punta Cana. Much cheaper than airport taxis.

planner

Uber can't pick up at the airport I am told. No airport inn the country.  They can drop off.

DRVisitor

I used to get picked up at Santo Domingo airport by Uber but that was a year or so ago so maybe changed. I have not used it at Punta Cana airport yet though but shows with the app.

planner

Some have arranged with uber to be picked up in the arrivals level.

Taxis pay for the right to be at the airport and provide transport - in their minds exclusively.  It's the same at most resorts.   There are hundreds of videos of fights between taxi groups and other competing groups.
