Bank account fees in Brazil

Hi all and thanks in advance for any input.

I am curious what everyone else pays per month to have a bank account in Brazil?

My wife is Brazilian, she has had a simple account with Santander for decades.  We pay R$76. Per month, every month, just to keep her bank account open.

I am hoping to open my own bank account in Brazil, just in my name, next month with my new CRNM, and want the best account for me, as a foreigner. I will need to send money to it from the USA, and I will have a rental apartment in Brazil, so I will need to pay bills out of it and have rental income sent into it.

At Banco do Brasil, our monthly fees are R$28.25 each for my personal Current Account, and our joint Current Account.  I transfer funds from the US every month to my account.  We pay all of our bills online from the joint account and make most of our purchases using our debit cards, choosing the account by type of expense.  As a university student, my husband gets a discount, and only pays R$12.80 for his Current Account at BB; he also has a student discount for an account he's had for years at Bradesco.

*ETA* Caixa has a reputation for having fees a little lower than BB.

Polícia Federal currently availability differs from state to state, and also by purpose of the visit.  The best way to find out whether they are scheduling interviews in your area is to call them.

We just made an appointment with Police Federal in Sao Paulo.  It was not easy but no problem

I am still trying to comprehend what the poster is saying or asking.
Who is "This Guy"? Who are "that guys" who are behaving badly in the USA.
PF offices are open. Some have a backlog, but many are successful in getting appts/

we just did two different deals yesterday.
Wired money from a US credit union to Bank of Brasil, it would have been changed in NY enroute, and we got a exchange rate of 5.00 reais/$
Took US  cash to a travel agency in an upscale shopping mall in Salvador.  They gave us 5.2000 .....

that difference can add up .....

The US dollar has been declining against most major currencies for the past two months ... some investors believe that this is the beginning of a major trend reversal .....the Brazilian currency has been one of the main beneficiaries ....it puts more pressure on people to get more money out of the USA, faster ....

To answer your first question my wife Brazilian pay 80 Reals a month a Bank of Brazil for a regular account. We have automatic pay for bill out of her account. She also has a saving account at another bank does pay I think for that account. The Real is predicted to move to 4.89 or 4.9 in the next few month but to move back up passed 5 again

Bradesco about the same

do not EVER trust financial reporting predictions ....they are written for one purpose only, to persuade rank and file investors to act in a certain way.  They are most certainly not written for your benefit......

I been using this tracking app for over 3 years and it proven to be within about 90% accurate. It show you trends and that give you direction where things are moving. If you listen to some predictors they say the US dollar going to drop 20%. I believe this is a great time to convert dollars to Reals since it’s 5 to 1. Just looking at where the Real has been 3 to 1 I feel we’re are close to bottom now with the Real. Looking at the US spending the dollar is going to drop. That my thoughts

My thoughts ... (some people may consider this to be political and biased  _ my apologies, I`m not trying to persuade anyone else, but only state my own opinion.)

All world currencies are racing together to the bottom.  From time to time one pulls ahead, then later another.  Which one is going to pull ahead for the next few months, does not concern me too much.  My main concern is as to what happens when they all start to hit bottom and become completely worthless.

I've always been deeply skeptical of any amateur's -- and most so-called pros' --  ability to time the foreign exchange markets consistently enough to make the effort worthwhile.

But be that as it may, expats thinking about making a big play in BRL because they find the current exchange rate attractive should do it in a way that doesn't trigger the Central Bank's money laundering alarms.  In practical terms, that means letting your Brazilian bank know in advance how many dollars are coming, and why.  Otherwise, expect the transfer to be tied up in red tape for some time -- as a best case scenario.
